JennyJ | Should i buy a lot of domain names for one website? |
I have a website that I am building that will be selling products. There are several (50 or so) domain names that I would like to buy that I am thinking would direct more traffic to my store but is there really any benefit in having more than one...I don't know much about marketing and making the website optimal for search engines so I may be wrong...should I spend $200 on about 30 more domain names that would each link to a certain part of my store? |

No, you would just be wasting money. Unless you think people will just type your domain into the browser address bar, you will get 0 traffic. All the good type-in domains are long gone. You would do better in search rankings if you did it with one domain with keyworded pages (www.mystore.com/candles. Search engines won't rank single page domains very well. The real key would be to get back links to your site with the anchor text of the incoming link matching what you are trying to sell. Like "click here to buy Candles" - which would link to your candle page. Also put the product name in large text at the top of each page in a bold or <H1> font. MSN search loves this. Depending on what you are selling you may find it very difficult to get near the top of any search page. It is very competitive. You can always try opening an AdWords account and paying to be in sponsored results. You are only charged when people click on your ad. You can bid as little as 10 cents per click. For less popular items it is fairly cheap to be on page 1 of the SERPS (search engine results pages). I have a domain registration business, but you should build your site around 1 good domain. |

I wouldn't.
If I go on google and I see more than one domain going to a single website it starts to look like a possible scam. Quite often you'll see sites that try to sell an ebook on "how to make money in stocks" but they have like 50 different domain names going there. I don't find the company to be confident with their skills if they need multiple domain names for the same product. To me, if the company is realiable, they will put their name on the site and they will have a single domain name (or perhaps more if your just getting say whatever.com and whatever.net).
I'd be far more confident to buy from you when I hear "Joe's hardware dot com" for all your hardware needs! rather than hearing from one person who goes to joes and another who gets to the same site by visiting "Steve's hardware dot com"
Don't forget, you can add sub-domains. If you register mycompany.com you can have sales.mycompany.com and contactus.mycompany.com if you wanted. |

No. I wouldn't. Seems pointless. Because with ONE domain you get endless possibilities.
Example:
www.yourdomainhere.com
www.yourdomainhere.com/ContactUs
www.yourdomainhere.com/AboutUs
ect..
Your ONE domain can link to all the parts of your store.
Example Again:
www.yourdomainhere.com/product1
www.yourdomainhere.com/product2
Understand? |

Hi, Having multiple domains will drive more traffic to your site, but probably just a few hits a day or even a week unless you set up a seperate landing page with each domain with it's own meta tags and keywords ect.. Even then, however, unless you have all the time in the world to promote all 50 your not going to get a whole lot of hits. I suggest deciding what name you want the most and then by all of them. i.e. the .com, .info, .org ect.. That way if your site really takes off you wont lose traffic to sombody typing in the wrong extension or a domain parker buying them and profiting off of your hard earned traffic. I suggest buying them from www.ICANN-Domains.com They are just like go daddy only I like them better. I also left a link to free site with some good tips on driving traffic to your site. |

I too would not bother. The key to getting more traffic is the content of your site. If you build several pages that are related to your site it will increase your traffic. Like Rob and Andre said increase your possibilities with sub domains either youdomain.com/anythinghere or anythinghere.yourdomain.com
Find a web host that will allow you to build unlimited pages for your site. This will increase the size of your net. If you would like assistance in building a website that will get the traffic you seek, I can share information about the web host that I use. They assist you through each step. You can save a lot of money building a site on your own. The web host I use goes one step further by educating you and giving you the proper tools to build a site.

hello you ok ?
i have a few little ideas to help you.
i used to have my own website about 3 years ago but now its not trading anymore.
i did not bother buying more domain names because it can be quite a pain at first.
if your wanting to get your website listed so it appears in all the major search engines like yahoo and google read the information below.
http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=+free+website+search+engine+submitters&btnG=Google+Search&meta=
there is something which is free and will save you money.
what i did was to go to google and type " free website search engine submitters " then you register for a free account on as many as you want to use and just use any easy password for each account created.
then after a few weeks your website should appear in most of the major search engines for free.[ a bot normally crawls it up the list for you automatically ! ].
once your website has been listed you dont have to do anymore ground work its out there ready to receive visitors.
i do suggest that you close the free accounts if they are only available for a limited period then look for more free submitters to get the website backout onto the internet for free.
using these methods will save you a lot of money too and most website control panels have an automatic submitter allready for you if you can locate it when logged in.
good luck and bye 4 now. |
