Small (new) business marketing tips?

As a newly established small business selling business to business professional services where are the best places to advertise? I have a limited budget, I have a website, I have a yellow pages ad which goes live in 2007. Any good suggestions?

As a new business you can be sure that everyone will be trying to take money of you to advertise with them.

Word-of-mouth is going to be your best source of new business. You could also try attending the various events that are hosted by your local council, Business Link and so on.

Networking can also be good, I've also found that there are certain people in any given business community to whom smaller businesses turn for advice. If you can earn the trust of such people you'll have no shortage of business - finding them is the problem.

You don't mention which type of b2b services you offer, but if you've got no work at present, and have plenty of time get a list of local companies whom you consider to be your target market and start writing to them, follow up with a phone call (beware of the MPS and TPS).

If you have a small budget the you'll need to target specific companies that you think may benefit from your services. If you advertise generally like in national mags or the papers then this will cost quite a bit of Â£Â£Â£. Selective targeting of potential customers is what you need to do.
Go through the yellow pages and identify the right companies for you; post them your company literature and then call back in a week to ask if they received it, and was there anything that you could help with.

You've be given a lot of good advice on sources for advertising, i.e., local chamber of commerce, local BNI chapter, networking opportunities, listings for free web advertising. Your best way to get clients on a limited budget is by referrals. Who do you know already who can provide referrals? If you have provided professional service for anybody to this point, can they provide a referral? Ask new clients who are happy with your service for two referrals. Secondly, I would ask how are you using your web site to effectively market your business? Are you gathering the names and email addresses of people visiting your site? Do you have a weekly newsletter or other resources you can offer to build a prospect list? Do you have a system in place to continually market to those prospects so you can convert them into customers?

Networking!! Go to places your customers are likely to be and get yourself introducted. Give talks at seminars if you can. Write ups in relevant magazines that your customers read is another way.
