Wolfgang92 | So, becuase fat people can't exercise self-control, now we all have to eat tasteless crap? |
And when I say fat people above, I am only referring to people that are heavy and blame others for their woes, not fat people who understand why they are fat and accept it, and don't blame others.
And to these hapless parents that are suing, TWO parents in Massachussets, get a life, why don't you try being parents and setting the example. Life is full of temptations, getting rid of them on the surface won't make them go away, if anything, it will make the kids that much more likely to "experiment" with fat foods. I can see it now, Twinkies, banned, you will have to get them from a supplier in Mexico, what is next, ban ban ban ban ban ban.
Sheesh!
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070614/ap_on_he_me/kids_food Additional Details Angela got my point. When will the government stop telling us what to do? Don't you realize that insurance companies are already talking about health scores, like credit scores, to regulate risk, translation, well, gee Mr. Jones, I'd like to give you this transplant, but your health score is only a 350, we need it to be 412 at least, but we have assigned risk pools for your class that we can see if they will offer you the service, at a higher rate of interest.
Also, the road to hell is paved with good intentions, these parents could learn something from Marge Simpson methinks. Banning everything won't make things go away, in America (since we are a nation of rebels) it draws us ever closer to that which is "forbidden".
Wake up America! Stop allowing PC whackos to sue us into submission. |

Apparently the government thinks people are too stupid to know what to eat and what not to eat, as well as how much to eat. Otherwise they wouldn't be banning stuff. They say trans fats are bad for your heart so some places are banning trans fats. Frankly, it's none of the governments business what I eat. Not exercising is bad for your heart too. So, are they going to start requiring everyone exercise for 20 - 30 minutes a day because it's good for you? What happens if you don't, do you get thrown in jail? |

I totally agree. Like the story this morning about Kelloggs making it's cereal less fatty. If kids today would learn how to manage their time wisely and spend some time doing some physical excercises rather than spend all of their time in front of a television or computer, we wouldn't have all these problems. And it's not just the kids fault. A lot of parents today aren't helping the problem. |

I totally agree with you about these parents suing food makers for their kids' obesity. I guess Kellogs can't run commercials for 'unhealthy' cereal anymore.
Here's a cure for commercials - don't let your kids watch tv 12 hours a day!
So what now, junk food is going to be treated like a drug? Don't make it so readily and kids won't want it...that didn't work for alcohol, marijuana, guns, or heroin, so why should it work for sugary food?
Parenting and the well-being of your child begins and ends with the parents. |

I agree, I am sick and tired of a few and sometimes a very few having their way and directing life for millions of people. If you don't like a product, don't buy it. It is not going to jump off of the shelves into your shopping cart and the store is not going to give it to you. Adults need to assume some responsibility and stop depending on the goverment and laws to suppliment their weak parenting. I am sure this is not all about good health either, These are two of societies sponges that thought they had found some easy money. If anyone knows these two worthless excuses of parents please direct them to this response, I wish I could tell them face to face what I thought of them and others like them. |

the kids don't have to...the parents are the ones that need some self control to not but them so much fool! |

Hang on Wolfie....
It's easy to portray this issue as a problem of a "Nanny State", but that isn't exactly the deal. I agree that the incentives are screwed up so that these particular people are not being held accountable for their eating decisions, however, this deal and most like them are from self interest and opportunistic lawyering rather than the government really worrying about this.
Advocacy groups of any sort, once started must justify their existence by manufacturing issues once the original issues have been satisfied, even if the original advocates have declared victory. This is the incentive for the groups to find issues where there are none, simply due to the self interest of those relying on the groups for employment.
We need to be looking at the structure of our litigation industry, since it is impacting both the cost and the quality of the goods and services we get via higher prices and provider risk.
Peace and Best Regards all.... |

there is still full fat stuff out there...more so than reduced fat stuff...so just eat that and stop ranting (unless ur overweight too) |

I agree as well, we are a sue happy society. This is right up there with suing the tobacco companies because you get lung cancer after smoking for 20 years, suing McDonalds because the coffee is hot, suing anybody for anything so you can pass the buck. |

Perhaps the real issue here is the fat industries lack of lobbying power. The fat industry should take a look at the great work of the tobacco industry. Throughout years of proven health concerns, issues, alerts, and warnings the tobacco industry has weathered all political storms and has come out smelling like a menthol rose. The fat industry could have an easier fight on their hands too, when was the last time someone died from second hand fat?
I think the judicial system is flawed. There is way to many frivolous lawsuits. The system should deny trial to these such cases based on common sense. Americans have a problem with self image. We as a society cannot assume responsibility for ourselves, when things go wrong in our lives we immediately look to blame someone or something else. Americans know something needs to change, but have the attitude it isn't going to be us personally. We all need to take a big dose of shut the hell up and get to work making this country great again. Don't get me wrong we have it great here now. How much better could we be if everyone assumed responsibility for their selves in every way? |

The blame should start from years back when parents were told not to spank their child, that it would alter their personality. Then parents were told to negotiate with their child and to pick their battles.
We now have an obese narcissistic generation that doesn't know about consequences.
I blame the parents.
