The best way that I know to get low cost traffic is to write articles about the products you are selling on your website.
If the product/s you are selling are something you are expert on you can share your expertise and become known as an expert in your field. if you don't know a lot about your product/s do some research and then write your articles.

I suggest that you should try submitting your url to as many sites as possible. Also, try to join forums, which have similar interests as your site offers. This will also give you the exposure you wanted. Try to write articles about your site (products/services) and submit them to different sites that cater to article submission. The people who get to read them will become interested with your site. Gaining traffic takes time. And you have to wait for at least six months to see the actual results.

1) Write articles on your area. In the resource box at the end of the article tell about your Web site and the benefits that are there for visitors.
2) Place an ad on Craigslist. This is free and it is excellent because it attracts many visitors to your site.
3) Send out a news release every month for six months. A news release creates a lot of buzz about you and brings people from all over the world to your Web site.
