You need to register for the Telephone Preference Service http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/tps/
The Telephone Preference Service (TPS) is the central opt out register on which you can record your preference not to receive unsolicited sales and marketing telephone calls to your home or mobile* telephone numbers. It is a legal requirement that all organisations (including charities, voluntary organisations and political parties) do not make such calls to numbers registered on the TPS unless they have your consent to do so.
You can equally opt out of mailings or unsolicited faxes via links from the same site. |

As a former professional telemarketer and autodialer builder there is a simple and CHEAP way to get rid of most of these calls. It's not blowing whistles or acting like an idiot because it won't work.
95% of all calls made today are made by electronic devices based on Dialogic hardware. This allows telemarketers to make more calls faster and more effectively. However they have a Achilles heal.
They all hang up on the sound of a disconnected tone.
The best device to get that can handle making that tone and be TOTALLY invisible to you is called a 'telezapper'. They sell for less then 20US on eBAY which is the best place to get one. It requires about 30 seconds to hook one up and it handles the entire house including extensions.
When you pick up the phone it emits a disconnected burst tone for a VERY short time that tells the calling machine your number is disconnected. Most machines have software that logs disconnected phone numbers and then doesn't call them back when it comes around for anther pass.
After a few months the calls will drop to practically zero.
Finally. Do not answer 800 or 866 numbers you don't recognize. They are almost all placed by telemarketers.
If you don't like having your breakfast disturbed then don't answer the phone. There's no law that requires you to. Unless you're some type of emergency responder then let the call ring to your answering machine. Delete unwanted calls on your own time. |

All I do is pick up the phone find out whose calling, then say "Oh! there's someone at the door!" then put the phone down conveniently by the television or radio speakers, and let them hang on! They cannot close the line from their end even if they put the phone down, because once they pick the phone up again, your lines still connected to them! So they have one phone out of commission until you let them go by putting your phone back on the hook! Try it! you'll soon get rid of them that way! |

Get yourself a very loud whistle, then every time they ring give them a blast with the whistle, a very loud blast. |

It's probably a bit inconvenient, but if I were you, I'd change my 'phone number, choose ex-directory and tell only your closest family, relatives and friends, etc. of your new number. Never disclose your new number to anyone else, and never declare it when filling out new customer or marketing application forms, etc. i.e. when on-line. It's certainly helped us! Good luck. |

You can do two things,,complain directly to the company that phones you, which would take time and not the thing you want to be doing at 4am,there is a complaints procedure set up to stop this type of cold calling,,your local CAB will advise, the other option is to ask the phone company to change your number and go Xdirectory,,,this problem may have been caused by yourself not ticking the little box that said no company contact or by any subsidiaries and other companies that they think you`d be interested in,,
Either way you go it will take time and effort |
