Advertising is designed to help you remember. That's it's primary goal. However, if the ad company is bad, they get you to remember through repitition rather then humor, insight or attention grabbing.
For example:

Everyone knows this commerical because it's so damn annoying. HOWEVER, you do know about it.

MC'DONALDS COMMERCIALS. Me and one of my friends actually have a long-time going inside joke based on mocking these commercials. I can't be too particular, because everyone is equally as horrible.

i would disagree. marketing companies, as you called them, have no intention in making zombies. they have their own agenda and business plan. they want to promote their product/service, and try to put out as many ads as possible for as little money as possible to cover the most of their target audience. if you don't do anything but watch the same show every day, chances are you see their commercial rather often. along with other commercials. hence you think the companies are after annoying you with their ad.
i agree though, there are a whole bunch of very annoying ads. i try not to watch them. i watch less and less tv in general. i do spend more time on the internet, but internet ads are not that annoying, as i am just blocking them.
on the other hand, if i have no other way but watch a commercial, i just look at it from a professional point of view. trying to guess what was the brief to the agency from the client, and what was probably the original, and what did the client cut and changed?... and so on.. |
