Local businesses that students or their parents will patronize, like pizza shops, tanning salons, hair+nail places, maybe formalwear (prom) rental places, etc. Local politicians maybe, if the ad doesn't contain an explicitly political message.
Also your parents, your friends' parents, neighbors, etc. Safety organizations in your community might also buy ads with a message, like MADD or the fire department. If there are any clubs or groups outside of school that many students or families belong to (such as Ronald McDonald House or Special Olympics), you could ask them as well. If your school will allow church and religious groups to buy ads, they could get large ads giving shout-outs to all their graduating flock.
In general, when selling anything, don't be pushy or whiny, just be upbeat and focus on how nearly everyone in the school has a look at the yearbook. Even if they say no, tell them, "Well, if you change your mind drop us a line," and give them a card or piece of paper with the necessary contact information on it.
Good luck! |

I sold ads for a school magazine, typically you go to people whom you know that own businesses; restaurants, home builders, automotive shops etc. These can be your parent's friends, or your friend's parents. After you sucker them into buying ads, go to other businesses that are local, and home town friendly---stay away from businesses that have a "No Solicitation" sign. Most people are nice to students who are doing things for school. Good Luck! |

I was on the yearbook staff all through HS. Dress nicely and go to all the local business; fast food, restaraunts, car dealerships, hardware stores, pet stores... just go every where! Ask to speak to the manager or owner. Tell them what they can get out of an ad: people will see the ad and see that they support the local school so that they will want to shop at that store.
Have fun! It gets a little easier after each one. Don't be disappointed if a business doesn't buy an ad, times are tight. Always thank them for the time they've spent with you. |

Just get a phone book and call any local business. Tell them you are selling ads for this years yearbook and would like to know if they are intrested or can they give you the number of the person ou need to talk to about it. Its easy but dont get discouraged when many say no thank you. Just keep positive and keep calling people. Dont forget the less thought about people such as insurance agents, realtors, dentists etc...
good luck |

Take last year's yearbook and go to the businesses that advertised in it. Show them their ad from last year and ask if they would like one for this year. That's how we did when I was on the yearbook twenty years ago. |
