M Asteria | Types of advertising? |
I would like to know how many types of advertising are there if I were to market a new product to the consumer? Pls note that my company is a small company |

Are you talking about vehicles to communicate your message? Almost innumerable, limited only by your creativity. The most creative will get the most notice.
The way to make a decision on the best vehicle of communication is to know your audience. If you're customer is an owner or manager of a small manufacturing company, then where you choose to promote your message will be very different from a new cosmetics company.
Don't under appreciate the power of the internet. Even though the nature of advertising on the internet is still in it's developmental stages - you can do some great narrow focused, target marketing for a relatively low price. |

there are thousands, in order to cut it down it depends on your objectives, who the target is, what are their media habits, what are the limitations of the product, where is it found...
...and of course your budget... |

depending on how much money you can saftly afford to spend on it.you have a choice from tele-sales /promotional mailing/promotional products advertising your product/to all other media from flyers to tele&internet. |

STOP: do not spend money yet. Before you waste money on things like ads and advertising you need to know what your customers are looking for, how they are looking for it, and where they are looking to find it.
#1: who is your target audience. Know this group well.
#2: Use Google Adwords first. (30 day run, plan on spending about $300-$500 depending on your niche)
Why? Because doing it this way will save you tens of thousands in the middle and long run.
#3: Depending on which words turn into sales (and yes, you can track this with a Free adwords tool) you'll build your page around those words. (SEO = Search engine optimization)
#4: never spend money in the phone book (nobody will ever see you again)
#5: Never spend money in direct mail unless you are ready to do a sequential mailer. (4 times to the same group of people)
Next: once you know what words turn into sales, and you have your page built around that (yes, even if you are local and a brick and mortar store) you'll want to use the press.
This is actually free and simple (once you have the format down)
Long story short: when you can provide the answer to this question you'll find yourself on the radio, TV and in the paper...
What's In It For Me? (Me being your customer)
The three rules: #1: be entertaining
#2: be educational/informative
#3: be relevant
These three rules also apply to your core business.
I hope that helps. Because if you choose to walk this road you'll have vastly more success with any and all advertising you choose to do in the future.
Oh yea... did I mention you'll also save hundreds of thousands of dollars in mistakes?
Conventional Radio Pricing: $75/1000 per 30 second spot
Frequently stations have a minimum purchase and if you're not planning on running at least 15-21x per week for a full 16 weeks don't bother. Nobody will ever hear you.
TV? Don't bother.
Newspaper: $500-$100,000 per week depending on circulation. Also, readership has dropped over 80% in the past 5 years.
Phone Book: Don't bother. Extremely expensive and you'll get lost in the other 10,000 biz that look exactly like you
SEO: Great idea! Your customers are Googling the idea of you, find out how they do it, optimize your website/blog for that phrase and enjoy the free traffic forever. |

I suggest you the following advertising methods:
1. Online Advertising: Place your ad on google adwords and yahoo publisher network. You will pay only when user clicks your ad, which shows that only interested user will visit.
2. Newspapper: You may place a small ad in newspapper
3. Leaflets/Flyers/Posters: You may distribute through local newspapper etc.
4. Radio/Local TV: you may also use this medium
5. Telephone/SMS: you may also advertise through bulk sms or phone calls.
Regards
Ria

As you may have realized, traditional marketing has changed rapidly. Don't take my word for it, Try this:
Type: BMW on Google Local, Yahoo Local
You will see a store listings, choose one of the Store Listing, you see a business page, with 4 ads on the page and links to other dealers.
Type BMW on www.thelocalindex.com
You will see BMW’s, click one, and click go to store. You will see their Whole Inventory Online.
Yes we are in beta, meaning we are currently adding Google Maps for directions to each store, Coupons for discounts to customers, a URL to direct customers to your store (example” www.thelocalindex.com/ Your Store Name) and alot more including Youtube videos, Slide: Slideshows, the ability to share on Myspace, Facebook, Flikr.
A Contact Importer to import current customers to your new store, with announcements to keep them updated on your business. Local Business events, networking events and a whole lot more.
The Local Index, is the best resource for local businesses because we promote top local businesses via Radio, Television and Printed Media.
The Goal of this site is to reintroduce the concept of local businesses to consumers as the hip, hot new thing. Instead of Pizza Hut, Walmart, Circuit City and Etc.
