A top salesman can go up to almost anyone, talk about almost any subject and have you feeling like he is an old friend in 5 minutes. Then, know and really believe in your product so well that you can talk about it without sounding like your reading from a script. You're just spinning your wheels if the person has no need or really can't afford your product.
This is the most difficult. Don't be too pushy. Good salesmen know when to push and when to back off. I think that has lost more sales than any other single factor. If they say no, you have to learn how to tell if that is really their final answer. Can you turn their objections around or would trying any more just turn them more strongly against the product. Sometimes it is better to just say ok how about those Kings and then maybe come back in a few months and test the water.
