littlecitysmitty | We've got one year to raise 30,000 dollars for a non-profit. Any new ideas versus the tried and true? |
In the past we've done spagetti feeds, car washes, lawn maintenence and even door to door. Just thought that someone might have an incredible new way to go. Thanks! |

50/50 raffle I know of a volunteer fire company that raises about $15,000 a month doing this. |

Depends on the non-profit. If you could co-operate with another non-profit that might help. Joint auction. Sell some art related to your cause.
Send your spare change. There was a high school student who asked everyone in the state to send some change - I forget precisely what - he didn't raise enough to go to Harvard but he had plenty for college. |

Don't know what your nonprofit is for, so I have to be a little vague, but you might want to check the websites of various big companies that have a presence in your neighborhood to see their CSR (Corporate Social Responsibilty) statement or if they offer grants to local nonprofits.
If your needs are inline with their giving policy, you apply at the right time of the giving cycle, and you properly submit the required documents, you can quite possibly get up to $5000.
Note - Corporations have very specific requirements (i.e. childrens's services, education, etc.) for grants so it may take some research to find one that supports your type of nonprofit.
Also remember - you can ask every individual that you get to donate to your cause if their company has a policy that meets all or a portion of their donation - many companies have such a policy. |

Auctions through MissionFish and ebay, or a company called CMarket is great.
Try a bingo with prizes donated by local companies. Charge $5 per card or more to play. If you have some great prizes, people will buy multiple cards. |

You could put together a car raffle. Do a deal with a car dealership to either donate a car to you or sell it to you at cost in exchange for promoting them in your raffle materials. Then sell 1000 tickets at $100 each. This gives each ticket a 1 in 1000 chance at a car which is pretty good odds when you think of it (better than the lottery and how much money do people spend on that every month) and it will raise $100,000 gross.
Subtract the cost of the car (assuming its not donated and is a decent car) at say $50k plus another $10k for printing, marketing and promotions and other expenses and you'll net $40k for your charity. Think big! Even if you fail, you'll usually end up ahead of where you would have been otherwise. |
