As far as the potential to earn money from your visitors other than purchasing your products or services I recommend joining some affiliate programs. I personally use www.commissionjunction.com because they have something for everyone. They manage your affiliate commissions for you. You can log in and check your stats and stuff.
Now, if you are wanting to advertise your site. Try this because you mentioned adding your site to search engines the least expensive way.

The answer depends on how technically skilled you are and how much you want to spend.
You have 3 basic options:
1. If you are very technically inclined you can get webhosting for as little as $4-5 a month. But you'll get little in the way of assistance and you'll need to learn some basic html coding and how to ftp files to a server. There's a big learning curve here.
2. If you don't want to do any work at all and you have money to spend, you can hire a freelancer to design and update the site for you. This can be very expensive...like thousands of dollars.
3. An option in the middle would be a webhost that has its own sitebuilding software and templates. Yahoo's is very popular but I've never tried it. I did build my first site with Site-Build-It. It costs about $24 per month, but you don't need any technical skills to create or maintain it. It has a user-friendly interface and if you can type into Microsoft Word you can easily create a nice site that looks professional and ranks well in the search engines.

The important word used in 'small business web site' this means that you need to take everything seriously as it is representing your business. So, forget free web sites, free web site hosting, turnkey web sites and such and develop a budget and marketing plan that will allow you to build a web site that is indicative of your professional business sense.
Hosting: a reliable host company is needed. cheaper is not always better. Suggest www.godaddy.com as they offer excellent packages as well as secure shopping cart if needed and much more.
Web Site: A web site must be professional and yet also convert consumers to 'purchase' from you and also must be found. This is called SEO. And a good SEO will be able to design you a search engine friendly web site that will be success full on the web....in time, as this is not overnight. If you elect not to budget for a web designer, or an seo pro, or one that does both, then you need to learn how to best do it on your own. This is not an easy undertaking. And by the way, the search engines will find your site without you having to submit it.
My advice, look at a budget and marketing plan. Search different SEO companies, host companies and if needed designers. DO not go with cheapest, or lowest, this is your business so be serious about the undertaking. Otherwise, you will lose money if you do not research all that is needed. |
