www.umbrellybooks.co... | WebSite Traffic for a Small Business...? |
Hello,
I am somewhat new small web business owner who writes and sells children’s literature through my site www.umbrellybooks.com. I constantly hear about companies that help drive business to your site such as Trafficeer.com and TraficBat.com. Any suggestions? Do these sites really work?
Best Wishes!

I've worked with a couple of independent publishers and their online marketing and the experience can vary widely. The major factor: the positioning of the author.
Let me say quickly. Your books are beautiful just from what I can see from the covers. The concepts are, in my opinion, better than the last children's author I worked with. Very neat. You and your illustrator are obviously very talented. Promotion, however, takes a different set of talents.
I have a 4-year-old. I have seen some pretty good childrens' books and I have seen some really bad ones. The major houses push these things out with their internal staff. Then you have the contracted authors working for the houses. Then you have the independent authors. The difference in all of these is marketing power.
You have done the dramatic first step of getting your book out to the major online booksellers. As far as the Internet is concerned, my opinion is that this move is 95% of the effort. I noticed in your request you said "drive business" and by that I assume you mean sales via your site. I don't think this is a realistic expectation.
Now that you have a presence on the major resellers, you need to expand on that presence. Your book listings contain neither "additional pages" nor an author's statement on Amazon. You do have good reviews! This is a plus. You must work the individual reseller sites just as you were thinking for your own site and build up the buzz around your book. Look for opportunities to work within their system.
The publishing web site should be more about the experience of the books and not about selling them. The experience is the opportunity to bring the books online. Your illustrator could really dress up a site and provide some coloring sheets, or a flash game concerning the characters, or a variety of options. Take a look at Disney, PBS Kids, and Cartoon Network to get an idea of the tools that can be implemented to build a child-centric buzz around your product.
Finally, I think the best thing you can do is probably offline. You may hate to hear this, but you need a road trip - an extended road trip. Personally, I used to love them when I had the US as my territory for a technology company. I would recommend 2-3 weeks several times per year. If it were me, I would partner with a bookseller like Barnes & Noble or Joseph Beth. Offer to do reading times, get their location lists and plot a course. You and your illustrator could split up during this period and cover twice the ground. It's grassroots, but until you get established, it's what it's going to take.
Hopefully, you'll wind up on the Christmas special for Oprah or something and you'll be slammed. Just realize that if you do, your sales will primarily come from Amazon and bn.com and not your site. Your site should be about the experience - I can't emphasize this enough.
I'm off to buy a copy of each. I hope this helps. |

The thing is that if you pay something to drive traffic to your website, if you stop paying, it stops coming.
If you create a website that attracts traffic by itself, create links into your site, then you won't have to pay anybody.
Sure, you could pay now and work on building lasting traffic meanwhile.
Adding excellent content to your site is without a doubt the best way to create permenant free traffic, hire a writer to do the writing if you can't do it yourself http://www.website-copy-writer.com |

Dear friend
I saw your question on yahoo answers and since i have spent a lot of time in search engine optimization because i had build a web site in order to sell affiliate products i have to say that the best way to drive free and quality traffic to your website is through search engines. the problem with this solution though is that you must spend a little time to write pages friendly to the search engines. You must write quality content into which you add the keywords a user might type in a search engine to find your product or service. If you have the ability to write and add the content on your website or on your blog be sure that your site will have a lot of traffic week by week, month by month. Of course there are companies who can do the hard work for you but they charge a lot. In my opinion the best solution is to invest in a search engine optimization program and do the job by yourself. The best program in the industry which i have used myself and i was very satisfied with was in this website http://www.webpositiongold.net/ . The other aspect you must have in your mind is that search engines need a couple of months until your website being included in their catalogues. Never mind. Be patient in the begining but then you will see the traffic to be increased day by day. Also search engines like to see for a parameter which is calling link popularity. This is the amount of sites are being connected to your site. Of course to do this by had is a very hard work to contact hundreds or even thousands of website owners or webmasters asking them to exchange links with. You should buy a service which is in this website http://linksmanager.com/. With this one you will definetly solve this problem because they give you a large amount of sites in different categories and you can choose if you want to exchange links with sites that are related to your industry or with any kind of site but with the purpose that you will have created a category list under which can put each website. In my opinion do not buy services that they promise a large amount of traffic in your website in a very small amount of time. They don't work. Also keep in mind that search engines must be one aspect of your promotion campaign that has to do with the online promotion. Do not forget the offline promotion too. There are many resources where you can promote your website offline and drive traffic to it. A very good website which i also have used for the offline promotion is this: http://www.classifiedclub.com/. Your site's traffic if you want to have quality must be built and it needs time and effort but i believe it worths it.
Oh i forgot, another very critical aspect which will help you to use the best keywords on your search engine optimized pages in order to turn to sales. You don't need any kind of traffic. There is another very good online tool which is in this website: http://www.wordtracker.com/ Very good indeed.
Well that's all i had to say and i hope i helped you a little.
Yours Sincerely
George Geroulias

Hi Johnny,
In addition to setting up a fr*ee blog and submitting it to blog directories to generate traffic to your site and article marketing that will take time to generate traffic....
research forums in your niche and participate in forums and share pertinent information. Create a signature file where you point to your website.
read the rules of the forum...blatant advertising is not permitted and you will get banned. There are certain areas in most forums where you can advertise.
Traffic exchanges work well, too. The best I have found is listed in the source box below. It is fr*ee to join.
As an aside, as a writer and distributor of children's literature, you may be interested in the following...
If you are interested in Network marketing, you may want to check out a legitimate home based business that focuses on building a business based on books, self-improvement, and a culture of charity.
The founders are Robert Allen (Multiple Streams of Income) and Richard Paul Evans (The 5 Lessons a Millionaire Taught Me)
It doesn't get more legit than that.
This is not a get rich quick scheme by any means.
There is extensive company and team training, so you will learn how to build this business the right way.
It is a dynamic, rapidly growing company. But, it is network marketing and you have to build the business. But, it is a great product, great people and fun.
It is a great and affordable way to actually become a book store. |

I would not recommend using programs that you have to pay to have traffic sent to you. Using PPC marketing such as Adwords and , Yahoo search marketing are a better idea.
If you are wanting to learn how to PPC market there is a tutorial at this site.
http://web-site-traffic-promotion.com/how-to-make-money-ppc-marketing.html
While there you may also sign up for a free traffic building and marketing news letter to learn more tips and online traffic building techniques.
You might also consider free article marketing - as well as classified ad marketing which is a very inexpensive way to market your website. All to which can be learned at the site in my source. |

No... I would not recommend you spending your hard earned money with traficeer. I checked out their website, (I had never heard of them) Any business that claims that they will submit your website to over 700,000 Search Engines, Directories, Link Pages, Online Malls, Classified Sites is full of "crap".
What thy really mean is that they will spam your website to these 99% insignificant search engines and directories.
Secondly... Automated website submissions are very much frowned upon by most of these entity's. They have software inplace that will disregard your submission. Some of these so called 700,000 websites will no doubt be "free For All sites (FFA) which will eventually or very quickly get your website banned from google.
The only search engines that really matter when it comes to website traffic are the big 3. Google, Yahoo, and MSN.
If your website has a good listing in these S.E.'s you'll have a fighting chance at online success!
Be sure to submit to these S.E.'s manually. Advertise in directories that have a good page rank. especially on the page where your listing will be placed.
Take your time! Give yourself at least one year at QUALITY inbound link building.
Expect to see your website traffic increase weekly. Make your first goal 20 to 30 unique visitors per day. You should see SOME sales even before then.
I gotta go now! I must return to my mountain top retreat!
(smiles!)
Don't forget what I said!
Peace,
Nick B.
P.S. If you can find a little extra time in your busy schedule, please take a look at a few of my articles on Home Based Business.
They may be of some assistance... If not now possibly in the near future! http://www.goarticles.com/cgi-bin/author.cgi?C=49708 |

The most effective way to advertise on the Internet is
to first set up a website and publish its domain name
on major search directories such as Google.com,
Yahoo.com [at http://www.google.com/addurl/?...... and
MSN.com since 85% of Internet shoppers rely on these
search directories to provide them with goods and
services. In a sense, these search directories are a
very large Internet Yellow Pages.
Nevertheless, should your website or opening webpage
fail to contain "generic" keywords, then anyone using
such "generic" queries will not be able to discover
your website. Your domain name [URL] of your website,
in a sense, will be invisible, undiscoverable.
You may want to consider some simple algorithms which,
when observed and committed in designing of a website
with placement of various critical metatags that can
surely achieve a high search engine presence and
increase Internet traffic to your website. These
metatag strategies work well with published webpages
at Google and Yahoo.
Design: Should you create an extensive Flash-based
website, make sure to fill-in the property entries
such as the Title, Description and Keywords. Failing
to do so, leaves no hard HTML or ALT resource that can
be readily indexed by search robots. Also consider the
Internet audience and their incoming setup. For
example, if they are on analog/dialup, Flash webpages
take too long to load up and therefore analog users
will likely lose interest and discontinue entering the
Flash site. On the other hand, anyone on hi-speed DSL
lines, will welcome Flash pages which load quickly. So
before designing a pure Flash websitge, ask the simple
question, "Who's my end user - is he on dialup or
DSL?" And if you had to choose between these two users
for maximum marketability, then select analog users
since 80% of most resident users are still analog
Internet subscribers and pure HTML designed webpages
is best for them.
A non-Flash-based website which relies on hard text,
is far easier to be indexed by search robots. Limit
the use of stylized text saved as .gifs since as a
graphic, they are not indexable by search robots.
Avoid use of frames since any number of search robots
are unable to properly classify textual material.
Placement of Metatags:
A ranking or search order does take place with Google
and Yahoo and it begins with the "Title" metag which
should consist of no more than 65 characters separated
by commas. The "Title" should describe in generic
terms, the goods and services, followed by a location
from which the resource is located, i.e., city, state.
The placement of a domain name which is not generic
within the "Title" is not appropriate, unless your
domain name is a major recognizable brand name.
The second metatag is the "Description" which is
usually 25-30 words to form a complete sentence which
best describes one's goods and services.
And the very last category - "Keywords" are also
somewhat limited to 15-16 words which can be plural
and compound in nature. Again, avoid multiple entries
which could be mistaken as "spamdexed entries" which
is defined as the loading, and submission of
repetitive words into a particular metatag category.
"Spamdexing" when discovered on a webpage and reported
to Google's spamreport.com can result in the
elimination of your website from their search
directory.
Here's an example of a very highly-placed website on
Google.com: Begin with the very "generic" search query
"croisssants downtown los angeles," taking note to not
abbreviate Los Angeles to "LA" and of course, leave
out the parentheses ("). It will bring up some 535,000 search results. Check out where "Nazos.net" is ranked. It's has a PR [Page Rank] of 2! Again, Nazos.net's high web presence was achieved by proper web design and placement of relevant metatags according to Google's publication guidelines.
Good luck! |
