An important thing to understand about SEO is there are two main types of optimization, Technical and Contextual.
Technical optimization is based on what some call "crawlability." This looks to resolve how easy or difficult it may be for a search engine spider to find your site and make its way around your site. Factors that may contribute are external links, a robots.txt file, sitemaps, directory listings (DMOZ is very important).
Contextual or content optimization focuses on the search engine spiders' experience once it arrives on the site. Assuming your site is efficiently "crawlable," how rich and relevant is the content. Factors that may contribute to content optimization are meta tags, alt tags, keyword density (how often do the keywords that you are looking to optimize for appear in your content). |
