First, know your audience. (What you think is the best thing about your product, may be #2...or #102 on the list, to them). Define your audience (you can't - and won't - be all things to all people).

Define your/your product's situation ("A problem well-defined is a problem half solved." - Albert Einstein)

Craft your message, and make it applicable to the medium (media you're using)

Direct Mail is most cost effective combined with response; combine this with: internet (banners, e-mail spanning, web site tie-ins that make sense with your product or reaching your target audience), events/promotions (if possible/applicable) to generate buzz/word-of-mount and press coverage

Pulse your message/campaign (4 weeks on, 2 off, 4 weeks on again, for example)
