What's the best way(s) to publicize a website?

I need ideas to publicize my website. I'm not selling anything so advertising on Google and Yahoo isn't really a top choice (I'm already doing it, though.) It's just a small simple blog-like site I make to talk about celeb gossip, weird news, picture galleries, etc. Here are some of the things I'm already doing:

- meta tags
- site submit (to a bunch of other engines)
- linked on myspace, xanga, blogs, even on here (lol!)

I'm running out of ideas! :(

Seriously though, getting hi rankings on Google or Yahoo is THE way. To do that do a search for your 'topics'.

Then review the first 10 pages of results. You are reviewing to see who you can get a link from, the more links from the top results the higher you get pulled up.

Have you considered providing a column for your local newspapers? A small newspaper is often approachable with new content and short articles. Offer to contribute articles in exchange for a simple classified or just for your tag-line.
