You have to use meta tags within the HTML coding in your site....
For instance if you sell Flowers, you have to make sure that the meta tags contain the word flower, flowershop, petals etc, everything to do with flowers - that is Search Engine optimization.
Also, if you are looking to market a particular product eg Flowers, you have to make sure the word is repeated as many times as grammatically possible on your page, so Search engines pick it up.
Another way is you could use pay per click, google/yahoo ads where you pay a little money to be featured on the site as ads when someone searches for the product/service you offer. Keep in mind tho, that you only pay for the ad placement when someone actually clicks on the ad.(Hence the name)
The ads that appear on search engines are known as PPC ads.
SEO and PPC is a huge industry and many web design companies offer it as part of their portfolio. You could talk to local companies and discuss rates with them. Be wary though, there are quite a few scam artists out there |

You could also sponsor affiliate advertising by having others place your banner onto their websites, and you simply pay them a percentage or flat fee for any sales that are generated.
