You will no doubt get some suggestions of on line advertising which will be scams......before considering any on line advertising take note of the following precautionary advice :-
Get onto a Search Engine eg. http://yahoo.com and type in the search text box (Note use double quotes) “is (such and such URL) a scam”. If you get some results, click on a few of them to see what people are saying about the business. If a lot of the comments are bad then it is a warning sign to stay away from that site.
Remember
1. Some people are very petty, so you must consider the statements made before listing the company as bad.
2. Some do not read the fine print when signing up or do not fully understand the concept therefore when a problem arises they complain loud and long.
3. Many of these companies have hundred of thousands of clients but have only a few complaints.
4. Make considered judgements.

I started a brick and mortar store with a partner two years ago and we struggle with the same problem. We have passed out flyers, posted flyers on billboards around our town and passed out business cards like crazy, but we still sturggle to get traffic through the door. The flyers work some, but it isn't enough. I starred your question and will be checking back to see others answers, good question. |

This website is great for web advertising. It's a free targeted advertising (based on you selecting various categories you would like to be included in) and link exchange network. You put other websites text ads on your page and yours appears on others. And it really is 100% free, forever. While it's not something that guarantees traffic it also doesn't cost anything, so why not try it?

You should try advertising on a site such as YouTube. Post a video or some form of a make shift commercial and when you create "tags" for it, use as many descriptions as possible so that there is a better chance of it coming up when someone does a search for anything related. |

Put something on Craigslist.
Make sure you email everyone you know to pass the word on.
Cold call....check the do not call list first...usually can check on the internet if they're on the "Do Not Call" list. |

There are a bunch of ways to advertise for free, but you get what you pay for.
If you're looking for local clients, then I suggest Kijiji or Craigslist they get a lot of traffic and chances are you'll get a few hits out of it.
The problem is, you're not going to generate much traffic. You can try banner exchanges, which are free, but you'll be polluting your site with advertisement and can possibly ruin your pagerank through Google.
If you optimize your site for certain keywords you can increase your pagerank enough that when people are looking for your product or service your site will be the first thing that shows up.
All around, you'll have to pay for marketing. If you don't have the money right away, sign up for an Adwords account with Google. You do have to pay them, but you only pay for the traffic that goes to your site (and you only have to pay them once a month)
If you believe in the products/services your offering, then the traffic you get sent should result in some sales for you that you can pay off your bill. |

A lot of the ideas given are great and I'd add trying to get a local press release out about your business (even though you have a website , you can and should still market locally). Press loves local stories. Offer a discount as well for local residents in the release. There are lots of press release services online too that are free. You can also write articles and submit to article directories with your resource box pointing to your website.
