mbm | What's the difference between "TM" (Trademark), "R" with a circle and "C" with a circle (Copyright)? |

Trademark is usually for a name or symbol. (Words/ phrases/ logos).
Copy right is usually for a work - literary/ music / art / books etc.
Example: Dan Brown can copy right his book Da Vinci code - that means noone else can steal or plagiarise his book, or publish parts of his book elsewhere.
However, a travel agent can advertise 'Da Vinci Code tours' taking tourists to the locations written in the book. To avoid it, he shud have 'trade marked' the word 'Da Vinci Code' itself. |

The trademark notice, notifies those who see it, that the logo , image etc is reserved by law to the owner of the mark. You may also see SM, which is servicemark. R is registered trademark which is the same thing and C is copyright which means that the content of the text (or software, or media) is owned by the author, subject to the copyright laws.
Basically a trade or service mark are logos, seals, signs or other images that are reserved to the claiming firm.
Copyright is the claim by an author that the work is in final form and is owned by the author. Useage is limited to any license granted by the same author. It includes print, video, digital, magnetic and all other forms of storage of the protected material. |

TM is a trademark which is usually followed by the R to signify it is a REGISTERED Trade mark. The C means the item has been copyrighted and theft is involved if you use it for any reason. All of them mean whoever made the items up wants to protect them forever. Trademarks are usually for business or a specific product name while copyrights are usually for works created such as literature, music, and so on. Hope this helps!! |
