You might start with an Internet site, a phone book listing and local newspaper advertising. Then use as many other websites as possible to direct folks to your own website. There are many free directories of service providers out there... plus Craigslist, of course!

A recent study by a leading marketing consultant reveals that most shoppers use the Internet to surf local business offers and opportunities.
People prefer to browse local businesses over the Internet to surf local businesses for their information

Creating Business profile in http://www.wowzzy.com is a marvelous marketing idea. This will enhance specific traffic. It is a good oppurtunity for businesses that don't have broad advertising supplies.

I would guess your target market would be women and especially women who are likely to have children or professional women who enjoy cooking and entertaining.

Depending upon your budget, you might look at advertising in something like Parents magazine. Look for opportunities at your local schools. Maybe visit a few PTA meetings and bring in some samples. Even if you don't have kids, I'm sure they won't mind the food. You could discreetly leave your business cards and some marketing collateral on the table with the food. Another place to do this would be at parent appreciation breakfasts.

To reach businesses look at joining networking groups, either independent groups or those offered through your chamber of commerce. Look into joining DSWA or DSA (Direct Selling Women's Assoc and Direct Selling Association) and see if you can get some mentoring there. Find a woman's entrepreneur group in your area and visit it. Talk to your upline for suggestions and/or his/her upline.

If you have a neighborhood assocation they may have an email group or newspaper you can advertise in. Leave door hangers on the doors in your neighborhood, pass out fliers while people are picking up their kids from school. Visit the bowling alleys, Bingo halls and any place else they will allow you to pass out information. Offer some product as a raffle prize at one of these or pass out some samples.

Wear a name tag everywhere you go that states what you do or has something that will get people to ask? It may not even have your name on it. Maybe it says something like, "What's for dinner?" or "Want something tasty and simple for dinner? Just as me."

Put your advertising on shirts and wear them around. Talk to people everywhere and pass out your cards to them. Pass our promotional items like full color jar openers with your contact information.

Look for other TS consultants and direct selling consultants in online groups like LinkedIn and tap them for ideas.

Hope this helps. I direct-sell WineShop At Home but am a promotional products producer during the day. So if you need jar openers, t-shirts, name badges....I can help. :-)
