Used to be a key target market for brand/marketing companies. This was due to their disposable income and the level to which this element of society was growing in size.
However, the 'Dual Income No Kids Yet' group (which is still growing) is not the attractive target market is used to be. With the rise in house prices and an ever increasing debt burden (both from education and consumerism in general) this groups disposable income is starting to contract. As such the manufacturers of indulgent, luxury products are starting to switch their focus elsewhere - for example the Grey Pound.
The Grey Pound is the poorly labelled target market of the over 65s, who following the housing bubble now find themselves in the enviable position of having large 'nest eggs' to spend on cars, clothes, holidays etc – something that Dinky’s once enjoyed as a certainty.
