Yours is a very good question and I clicked on it to see what suggestions you'd gotten.
As for myself, I've just learned to compartmentalize my life and "act the role" that is being called for at the time; dealing with the rest later on. I am VERY different when I'm "playing" my roles of mom, sister, professional, caregiver, driver, etc. I have mountinous troubles, but I block them all out, promising my brain that I'll deal with it later on, and it seems to give me the release from the greater stressors such that I can play out the moment at hand. I've becomed an easy "escapist" with practice at it, so I hope this helps you, too. |

"Compartmentalization" is one good answer. Read Napolean Hill, W. Clement Stone and Dan Kennedy on this topic. It can be difficult to develop, but there are mental techniques.
A better answer is, how can you live your life to cut down on situations like that? Is your career important to you? Is it more important than the distraction? Make some hard choices. |

I have had certain success in smiling when I don't want to by thinking "this, too, shall pass." Whatever it is you have to put up with at work will end, if not permanently, then temporarily at the end of the work day. If it's a presentation, it will be over after the alloted time, et cetera, et cetera. |

Whoah, that's hard. But putting a ready smile on your face at the start of the day will do the trick. It's some kind of stencil that will be glued on your face every minute and the rest of your life. Practice makes it perfect. |

Not to make this philosophical, but I'd ask:
If something negative in a corner of your life could cause you to be unable to get rid of a frown, then something positive in a corner of your life should be enough to implant an indelible smile!
Go find that happy, positive part of your life and substitute THAT thought for whatever you're projecting now.
This should be easy. Surely more of your life is good than bad! |
