The best way is to have links to your site on other sites where your target audience is most likely to be viewing.
Therer are services that keep track of website traffic and how many hits each site gets. If you are a hang gliding organization, you would want to seek similar activity sites like rock climbing and make links to those type of sites. |

well if you are opting for cheap publicity you can consider the following:
-create links to your website in your myspace/facebook/teenysite community
-write you site URL on on public university sidewalks and/or walls
-create forward to send to your network of friends
-write something about your site on wikipedia
-word of mouth
-creative posters you and your friends could post throughout your community
-post your website on blogs related to it |

* Make some handouts to give at the local mall

* Spread the word by mouth...over the phone, in conversation LOUDLY while your on public transport. If you can repeat the address a few times so people can hear you.
* Write the address on your hand so people can see it while your on the tube, bus etc..
* Make a voicemail recording on your phone and mention it on there
* Have it as your MSN screename
* Put it as your Yahoo ID so everybody on here can see it

Make sure you are getting listed in Google for relevant search terms.
Register your site with www.dmoz.org - this will eventually help you with your search engine optimisation and making sure you are highly listed within Google, Yahoo! and MSN (these search engines have the highest market share - it will be of little use to you to spend time optimising for others).
Post links to your site within forums where people will be geniunely interested in your site. Do not annoy people by continually plastering your URL where it is not relevant.
You may find that other sites are willing to link to yours if you offer information that is complementary to theirs. For example, on my website if we have a press release about an event - if someone else has a lot of background info on the origins of the event then I will link to them as supplementary information.
Always put your URL at the foot of your emails, stick it on your business card if you have one.
Word of mouth is a good tool. Tell people who might be interested in it and if it is a good site they may tell someone else etc, thus endorsing your site.
Without having any further details on your site, there is not a lot of information I can offer beyond this point. I believe there have already been other suggestions re: linking it on myspace accounts etc. You can also sign up to any number of directory sites on the net - but DMOZ is the biggy!
I personally would recommend an organic search engine optimisation approach. Takes time but had the best results and credibility. |

Here are few my suggestions:
1. Start submitting to search engines and directories (when you've done this basic step, you would be surprised that the effect is sooner than you expected)
2. Start joining forums (related to your business) where you could freely discuss about your stuff. However, do not promote directly, be able to give forum members something that they need. Speak of benefits.
3. Try to exchange links with complement sites.
4. Try reading more web marketing stuff and freely ask experts in forums for you to get plenty of ideas and avoid marketing pitfalls.

Without knowing what your website offers, who your target market is, and what your market positioning is, I am not able to give you a direct course of action.
Here are some ways I believe any website administrator or marketer can utilize the web to get higher targeted visitors quickly.
Here are my top three general recommendations:
Write press releases: PRWeb and many other services will publish at no to low cost.
Write articles about solutions your product or website can solve. People want their problems solved, write a good article or pay a freelance writer to give you fresh content articles and get them published threw an article distribution channel.
Social bookmarking/tagging services.
Many of these sites are indexed well with the search engines, provide backlinks to your site and a steady flow of highly targeted visitors.

Hi - Your best answer comes from ds_property_services. That seems to cover most techniques. However, these require a lot of work and a significant time lag before real traffic (visitors) starts to come through. Maybe 6 to 8 months minimum. BUT... it is free. Something a lot of marketers are doing these days is using Social Networking sites to (subtly) promote their websites.
