What are the best websites to use to advertise my site? exluding google ads?

Hi Peter,

I also have an online business and I am always looking for low cost methods to advertise. There is always PPC, but that can be very costly, but you will get fast, targeted traffic.

If you are looking to get quick response and are watching your budget, you can try the following:

You should place fr*ee classified ads at Direct Matches and head over to Adland Pros, which is similar to Direct Matches.

You will find various categories where you can place your classified ads...just pick the ones that are the most suitable.

These are excellent online communities that are fr*ee to join and you can advertise your business or opportunity and get it in front of many eyes.

They also have a very good traffic exchange that you should join. Just read the instructions to join the traffic exchange.
This is another fr*ee method to increase traffic to your site.

The best traffic exchange is Traffic Swarm. ....traffic exchanges are very good to get your ads in front of many eyes. Just participate in the fr*ee exchanges. It is based on surfing the net and viewing other participating advertisers and you receive credits. The more credits you have, the more your ad is shown to the traffic exchange members.

Make sure to read the getting started section to activate your account properly.

Another excellent online community is Yuwie, which will allow you to blog and connect with a rapidly growing community of friends and enable you to get your name out there.

Go to forums, including the ones at Direct matches and Adland Pro. Post to forums...do not do blatant advertising or you will get banned. Set up a signature file and put you website there. Some forums have specific areas for fr*ee ads...use those, too.

Traffic Digger can bring you a huge amount of nearly effortless visitors to your site. Your ad will be on 7 levels of this page, being advertised by all the people who join after you...that can add up to 1,000,000's of people seeing your ad and clicking thru to visit your site!

You should also place classified ads at sites, such as www.Craigslist.com and www.backpage.com These are fr*ee to place ads. You can target a local market. Just make sure that you change the ads a bit if you are going to place more than one for different locations.

Good luck and let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.

The URL's to join the various sites can be found below in the source box.

Regards, Marc

If you have your website properly optimized, you can find your site on the front pages of google without advertising!

This is the best way to get traffic by organic search.

Well the obvious answer is Yahoo, but I think there are better ways to advertise your site for free. You can try link exchanges with other web sites with similar content. This can be time consuming and tedious, but I’ve found it worth the effort. I also think getting your site listed in directories helps as well, again it’s a pain but in the long run I think helps. Also get involved with forums related to your web site and once you kind of establish yourself as a “expert” you could start to mention your site, just don’t be obvious about promoting your site.

Google is unlikely to be your best use of money anyway (far too expensive). You should work to get your site to show up in keyword hits at the major search engines so that people will be more likely to find your page. Unfortunately the key to this is to do a lot of work to get other people to link to your page (that is a big part of how an engine determines the popularity of a site. However, this also means making sure you have your pages properly flagged with key words and getting your site best off.

In terms of actual paid advertising for your site, a more targeted advertising scheme would work much better than the expensive ads like Google. If for example your site is about the NY Mets, then finding other popular sites that is about baseball and sports and advertising on those will give you more "bang for your buck".

Another avenue is to create podcasts and to hook up with things like the Google Home page. Google has a tool that allows users to subscribe to content delivered in a certain XML format and add that to their home page. So if your site is about widgets and you have a lot of widget articles then you can setup your pages to have an XML structure and submit them to google so people putting information about widgets on their home page will be able to add your new addition to their page.

Good luck!

The below company can do a fantastic job, they can give guarantees and have our phone going every day.

To get the most impact (since you're avoiding Google) I would go with other major search engines like Yahoo!, Ask.com, AOL, etc. If you wanted to step up the efforts, go straight for the social networking sites like MySpace, FaceBook, Friendster, etc.

It all depends mainly on the audience you're trying to reach, but I think those sites will get you a broader audience and more bang for your advertising buck... Good luck!

Try Linkshare www.linkshare.com or Commission Junction www.cj.com

Either one of them can set you up with some affiliate advertising programs.

Tips: Make sure who ever you pick sets you up with target prospects rather than their general ad pool (any one of their affiliate hosts) or else you could be advertising to a public that doesn't care about you. Also, ask them to choose very specific key word phrases (for search engine marketing) or else you could be spending a lot of money advertising to that same wrong audience. For instance, if you sell bicycle tools, and the keyword they use is TOOLS, your ad may end up on automotive sites, software sites, gardening sites–even self-help coping sites!

In the meantime, set yourself up with Google analytics and see where your traffic is coming from now and what operating systems, screen resolutions, etc. your viewers are on now. That way, you can optimize your site and get rid of things that might be hurting you. For instance, if you have a really cool Flash site, but you're bouncing half of your visitors because they don't have updated versions of Flash, it would be good to know. It's not worth spending the money getting people to your site if you lose them at the home page.

Good luck. Both of those companies have pretty much the same pros and cons.
