Your question is quite wide. From a point of a customer I try my best to answer you. The first and most important thing in any customer is the service and cost. If carrefour can provide a good service and low cost items, I think people will always want to go back and shop. You really dun need any advertisement.
Secondly, customer must be recognised through issuing of loyalty points. By accumulating up to certain loyalty points, they can in turn exchange the points for vocher or other products. This encourage people go and shop more at carrefour.
Thirdly, staff must be familiarise with the products and where are they placed. As a customer ,when I patronised any supermarket, I expect the staff to assist me to the right area to find the product that I want when I am unable to find it. What they need to do is tell me where is the item being placed and under what category. Basically, I think once these three things is achieved, the rest is really up to the management to decide.

I am not sure what your second line is, but customers want as much as they can for free.
