I don't know exactly what they teach when you get into advertising.
But I know many advertising techniques include these three factors:
PATHOS- emotional connection (to audience)
LOGOS- logical resoning
ETHOS- credibility of speaker
Here are examples:
PATHOS is used in the commercials for children in third world countries. They show children and tell the audience that they are starving and suffering. This triggers emotional response within the audience, like sadness.
LOGOS would be used in explaining that "you" can feed a child for only 8 cents a week. It is practical, logical, not unreasonable.
ETHOS would be saying that this "Feed the Children" porgram has fed over 5000 children and has helped give homes to more families than any other organization.
This is just an example....this advertisement clearly displays all 3 factors.
