Packaging is very important factor to attract the customer. Lack in packaging will result to lower awareness of our product or service in the eyes of customer. So that, packaging plays important role in attracting customer's attention and encouraging sales. What are the various factors to be taken into account when do packaging?

The appearance of it has to be appealing, obviously. That totally depends on the product and the marketing strategy for the product.

Also take into account the shelf space and the shipping. If the package is too weak the product could be damaged in transit, if it is too heavy, the extra materials will cost, and not as much product will fit in boxes = higher ship cost.

With packaging, you will put a lot of energy into deciding on the shape, the layout, the typeface and the colours, and often in that order. The general public, however, will respond to it in a different order: the first thing they will in fact register is its colour. On average a consumer takes 15 seconds to make a purchasing decision in the supermarket - not long enough to be affected by even the most seductive copy, layout and typeface, unless the colour has attracted them initially. If you have not got the colours absolutely right, if they are not in tune with the product and what it represents in the mind of the consumer, it will not matter how appealing the other elements in the design mix are, your proposition is dead in the water and the consumer will move on.

Therefore if you package your product in the right colours, people will be attracted to it, and buy it. Unfortunately, 80% of new product launches fail, and the colours of the packaging are often a major factor in that failure. Yet when it happens, it often does not occur to anybody that the problem might have been the colours. Even if the thought does occur, having chosen the colours by a subjective process of consensus in the first place, it is impossible to analyse what precisely was wrong with them.

There are certain points you need to remember: the information package, teh nutritional value (if there is any), the proper mixing and balance of colors and items/ graphics, and the overall impact or packaging of the product.

Depends on what you class as packaging, I class into 2 fields:

1 : RETAIL packaging : Colourful and attractive packaging which entices customer reaction to purchase. Informative and decorative to promote the product(s)

2: PROTECTIVE packaging : Structurally superior packaging and most protective. Least attractive and not designed to entice purchase. Typically used to ship a product or products.

Retail packaging often needs protective packaging to send in the post.

You will need to define the sector you wish to use as each provokes very different answers.

The main factor when a choice on how you package a product is PRICE - Your budget will govern what design/materials are used for your packaging.
