Medium to dark blue seems to be the best color that causes people to buy, according to psychologists. The apparent reason for this is because blue inspires confidence in the seller as well as the product.
The shade of blue is important. Medium to dark blue exerts the most force. Light blue, or pastel, does not inspire the same amount of confidence.
Marketers often use two colors for their sales campaign - red and blue. Red grabs the attention of the shopper. Blue makes the sale.

I have had success with blue or a darker derivative of blue, like a blueish-gray. Blue conveys trust, an important factor users must feel about a site if they are going to spend money. I would not use Blue as the primary color, but as an accent. |

There was a study done with coffee and irrespective of the type of coffee
- the blue coffee was perceived as being mild
- the red coffee was strong
- the gold coffee was normal
It depends which product you are trying to sell and in what context. (ie if your store is in the same strip as red rooster, kfc and maccas i would stay away from Red as your product won't stand out) |

A color itself is not going to make people buy. Just because Coca Cola is red and white with some black doesn't mean that's what sells. Just because Pepsi is blue, red, white and black doesn't mean that those colors are why it sells.
Any research that has been carried out on "what color makes people buy" is a load of uncontrolled and badly coordinated testing.
Just because orange is not on the list above, does that mean that people won't buy? Hey, it's a derivative of red and captures attention, though not quite as well as red, but a lot better than blue. And yet, somehow, the marketingtips logo has orange on it, cingular has orange. Somehow they're still in business. How do you account for that if orange doesn't make people buy? Or why is Amazon.com still in business? Colors can only attract attention or not, or help convey a feeling or "wavelength." After that, it's up to the offer, copy or person to make the actual sale.
