Work at a local newspaper. You can learn to use the software there and see how advertising comes into play. Learn how to build ads and how the pages are laid out for printing. It is a great place to get a start and usually easy to get a job doing something there!
Good Luck |

Try to get an internship if you're taking it up in school. That's always a good start. Try monster.com and write a letter to an employer explaining your passion and interest in it. Just some tips. |

Advertising is a pretty broad term. You didn't mention whether or not you want to be in on the creative side of the business or on the management side of the business - each is quite different.
As for preparing for the industry...
If I were you, the more you can learn about sales, such as in a retail environment, the better. This will give you a first hand understanding of dealing with customers, understanding how a store caters to a specific clientelle, exposure to current advertising and marketing campaigns, an understanding of how visual merchandising works in a store, merchandising and other marketing principles.
As you gain exposure to these different areas of a retail business, you may come to determine what it is you wish to do in marketing or advertising. For instance, you may determine that you enjoy the process of merchandising - which is determining which products to carry in your store, based upon the needs and preferences of your customers.
Outside of taking actual courses in advertising - which would be my first recommendation, experience in the retail world will give you an introduction to the world of advertising and a brief understanding of how it works. |

I hear anti-drunk driving commercials are paying a lot, but I don't know, I haven't been in any advertisements. |

Research marketing...you'll find tons of information on advertising & promoting ... try to locate internships in that area ..
Club promoters are everywhere and love to talk about what they do .. so if you come across a few club fliers ... give the contact person a call .. they will talk to you for hours and help you out |

Many places need people in advertising and promotion. If you have a degree, I'd suggest starting with an internship. Internships are usually not paid, but provide valuable experience.
All media, many print shops, and most businesses need advertising, promotion people. But getting a job in that field will be hard without experience or a degree.
If you have no experience and no education in this field, you will have to start at the bottom, dong mostly grunt work. But if you become a good employee and express an interest in advertising, you'll eventually get changes to learn.
As you interview in the types of organizations that have in-house advertising and promotion positions, be sure to tell them that you want to learn that position, regardless of the position that you apply for.
To learn more about marketing, including advertising and promotion, check out my blog in the resource box. |

They will pay you for selling advertisements. As long as you make the sale (like talk to your local halal meat shop owner), they may not even care if you are underage since they are not paying you a salary they pay per ad.
they are in Michigan but you can sell ads from anywhere as the newspaper is distributed nationally. |

Stand outside the sidewalk in front of a deli with one of those sandwich boards strapped to your back that tells what the daily special is.
Honestly; try to find an internship someplace or look on Craigslist for your city. I know you want to get paid but its tough when you're young and you can gain valuable experience interning in a real agency. You'll also make valuable connections. |
