Marketing is a broader term and include sales. Sales is the implementable part of marketing. Marketing involves product mix, studying markets, strategising etc.
Moreover, marketing also involves CRM- Customer Relationship Management- which means yielding Life Time Value (LTV) from the customer. In simple terms, retaining your customer forever. Sales does not include CRM generally.
Marketing is for a longer duration, generally extending upto 5 years while sales is for shorter duration.
The objective of sales is that your product/service should be 'preferred' over your rival's product/service; be it on account of price, packaging, promotion or whatever. But marketing implies that your product should be 'loved' AND 'owned' by the customer over his/her life. |
