Hi, I am an American student doing a project on laundry detergent use in India, and what consumers in India look for in their product.
I was hoping to get some input from you all, about your preferred method of washing and about what makes you want to buy one product over another.

I look for several things in a laundry detergent:
1. Concentrated Formula. I hate having to use a whole bottle or an entire box just for a few loads.
2. Environmental Sensitivity. I like to try to purchase products that are produced with some sensitivity to the environment. If the package can be recycled or whatever, that's a start.
3. Good Value. I have a hard time understanding why brand name detergents cost so much more than their generic counterparts, even though they contain the same ingredients. Yes, I know part of it is to support national advertising campaigns, but it slays me how some brand names cost nearly double the price of their generics.
4. Portability. I like it when the product comes in a size that can provide a good number of laundry loads without taking up all the room in my linen closet. (This is another reason why I like concentrated formulas - the containers are smaller.)
5. Low Sudsing Formula. It's always scary when you try a new formula and aren't sure how much to put in the machine. The last thing you want to do is wash your laundry AND mop the floor. I am under the understanding that low sudsing formulas are also better for the environment.
6. Clean, Fresh Scent. I like some of the new detergents that feature a nice clean scent to them. When you put your clothes away, they just smell cleaner.

Hi I am from India and working in organized retail sector as a manager.
I thing you have to understand the detergent market 1st if you want to make the project successful.
1st the test of Indian consumer change day by day, early day every household use detergent as a regular need in India. But now the situation is different, detergent is a very high involvement purchase now, because everyone is very much aware about there social status.
Basically Indian detergent market is segmented in some class.
1. Value customers those who purchase tide, rin or wheel because they need good products with value for money.
2. Premium customers who purchase Arial, surf excel there main motto is to get best products.
3. Lower income group they like to purchase local brand as well as sunlight, nirma etc.
Those are price and quality segmentation
Other segment is also there
Like different value or need like the smell, color, flavor, like surf excel or Arial, surf excel use for critical spot in garment and Arial has different flavor.
When I purchase detergent I look the price and the quality both because I have a limited allocation of fund in detergents I don’t go beyond the level but I also need good quality.
Flavor is not a very big concern for me. |
