What do you think a good name for an atv/dirtbike store in a small town named Sparta could be called?

I want to, also, be able to sell other items besides just atv's, etc., like dolls, 5 cent candy for kids, kind of like the old stores use to have, maybe some trinkets. I'm thinking of barstools, soda counter, etc. This is my deal - my husband loves dirtbikes and atv's. He can fix anything if you give him the parts. But, we already have two dirtbike/atv stores in a town that is so small we don't even have a stoplight in it (or a McD's, etc.) So, to make it less competitive like, I would like to make it more of a 5 and 10 or trading post, or whatever, and yes, make the atv part the main attraction, with sales and repairs. So please give me a good name because I need to have the sign made this week sometime and if you have any good ideas as to how to set up a store on a budget, (this is our first store), please include that, also. Please be imaginative and detailed. I want the very best and I know that means getting alot of people's ideas. THANKS!!

Hooo....Budget is going to be the VERY key thing here.

Do your market research first - like NOW. PLEASE! Find out about how much the other TWO stores (Is there room for a third in this market? How about competition for the dime-store part? Can you compete with the convenience store/gas stations/markets?) bring in, on average, each month. Make a realistic projection as to how much gross income you think you'll bring in each month - Remember, you're likely to bring in a lot more during the summer months than the winter months, but you need to pay the bills during the winter too.

Why would people come to YOUR store and not the other choices for all those good and services?

How much will you pay for shop space rental? Tools? Starting inventory? Electricity? Water? Insurance? Heating/Cooling? How much will you pay your employees - including yourselves? Remember, you're going to be paying almost as much in taxes as you are in wages for each person. How much will your stock devalue each month due to spoilage or models going out of style/age? How much will you have to pay up front to stock your store with ATV's, tools, spare parts, trinkets, a Soda Fountain, and so on? Will you do your own taxes each year, or pay an accountant? Will you incorporate (it costs about $1,000 to do so), or run as a sole-propietorship or partnership?

Will your projected income be MORE than all those costs in a town that doesn't have a stop light or a fast food joint and already has two stores in the same market?

I think you've got a great dream - I think you might need to find a better location though (It's always location, location, location!)...

Now, as to a NAME...

* "Thermopyle" (therm-op-a-lee) - Site of the Spartan's most famous battle where 300 of them fought off an army of 1,000,000 and basically saved Western civilization. The name will have people asking "Hunh WHAT?" Might be too derivative though. :-)

* "All Weather ATVs" - Let 'em know you sell stuff for ALL seasons!

* Quad-Stop-N-Go!

* Quad-Stop-N-Shop!

How about setting up the trading store like you want to and advertising your husbands repair skills from it. He could be "out back" With so may ATV's around a small town - some one must repair them.

How about Sparticus

Try and make it a meeting place where people can meet, eat, drink and buy vital stuff.

Why not just call it the Sparta Trading Post?

And, don't limit yourself to certain merchandise, but seek out things that are harder to find... accessories for the atvs or other things. You could consider doing a resale shop in there as well. If you do that, though, you'll want to take things on consignment whenever possible. I'd steer clear of clothes, though. They usually don't sell well.

I like the idea of a mini-cafe or soda fountain atmosphere, too. That could be your calling card because it would be a good place for the neighbors to mingle and hang out. Maybe do sandwiches and after-school treats, but start out slow and build up so you'll know what the customers want and won't have a lot of money tied up in inventory or food that will ruin.
