Pepper | What do you think of the saying, "the customer is always right?"? |
|

it's wrong cause if you don't try to make him/her understand you are not helping much which makes you a uncaring person.
The customer should be the "king" but the king isnot always right :)
Customer education is important cause it shows you care |

Hi Pepper, my name is Hank. There are two parts to the saying "the customer is always right." The first is rooted in sales, and means that if the seller wants to make a sell he/she should treat the customer as if they are right.
The other part of the saying is that if a customer has a complaint, you should always treat the customer as if they are right, but when proven otherwise you are free to say the customer is wrong.

I would reply with caveat emptor(let the buyer beware). |

I think it is not true, but you should in general behave as it is true. You should always understand what the customer wants and what the customer perceives. If you cannot meet it, then be honest and say so and let the customer go. Thus the customer is right...
Example that hit the gray area: customer doesn't like your return policy, tells you that "so and so said I could bring it back." You say "I do not doubt what you are telling me, but I am the manager/owner and this is our policy. I will not take this return for you and I apologize for any inconvenience." <-- we will lose this customer, but it is the right action.

I think it is true until that particular customer proves otherwise. Put another way, you need a well defined definition of what customer is to you. Some prospective customers are better served by your competition. Example: slow payers, high maintenance low profit.
Much depends upon your business and business environment.
For example, lets say you are a new real estate agent in a small rural town. Your just starting out. Someone wants you to list their home for sale. After you review the owners situation you realize the prospect is fishing for a high price because it is a buyers market . You know he has no real need to sell. The customer just thinks his house is a hot item. You know you will just get a bad reputation if you just list a home that sits on the market. You would be wise to walk away. The owner is not a customer. While another more established agent may be able to do list the house at the high price. He may determine he has an established reputation and wants to maintain the goodwill of that particular owner. For him ,his customer is right. For you, he is not a customer. |

I have had customers use that saying when blatently trying to abuse the company. Definately not true.
That dosn't mean that I havn't tried to accomidate the customer, but only so long as they arn't completely abusing the system. |

Its always true.. any time.. every time.. because they are the bread and butter of a company.. My marketing professor used to always tell us that "Customer is the Ace"... Customers should always be treated with utmost respect all time, what every the condition/circumstance may be.. |
