I work at an advertising agency and genuinely want to help you. Narrative is a method in which the medium (TV, Radio, print) are trying to deliver the message to you.

What platform is being used to advertise eg, internet, television, billboards.
How does the medium use narrative is asking how that platform (medium) puts across the story (advert).
eg billboards are usually static pictures so they'll use big pictures with big text, internet advertising usually is littered with flashing lights, text etc and television adverts use extra volume, celebrities to draw in the viewer. |

I think of medium as "the translator" or like a soothsayer or like a palm reading fortune teller, able to connect to both worlds, as it's own entity involved where needed.
In advertising? Maybe the salesman who sees the direction needs of the buyer and sells the attempt to capture that direction by the agency |

The medium is the vehicle used to carry advertising. (hence the word media). These would include Radio, Television (both could be clasified as broadcasting), Newspapers.
The medium itself can be just an inert carrier or could have some influence on the advertising. Such as the time slot. But this is all usually decied by the makers of the advert. We usually refer to mass media which is/are the mediums used to project advertising to a lot of people. But of course we have podcasts now which are a medium but not part of mass media, in fact the opposite. Medium comes form Latin and the basic meaning is "means", as in the means to do something. It is also used in cell culture, or plant growing, being the inert matter that supplies the means for something to grow. Contrary to what has been said the medium itself does not have an effect on the success or failure of the advertising. The internet, as a means of delivering advertising content has no effect itself. A particular website on that medium will obviously have a great effect (good or bad) |
