Freecycle. 4000 local groups around the world. I recently got a large computer desk which I painted (looks good) and an exercise bike. Both completely free. Here in Ireland, there's also Jumbletown. Last year we "recycled" all our old working kitchen appliances + loads of other stuff like curtains, windows, doors, to other people who wanted them via these 2 websites.. |

Freecycle.
It's a global organisation with lots of local groups (so, here in Sussex, we have one for Horsham and Crawley, another for Brighton and so on.)
The idea is that members OFFER stuff they no longer want, free of charge, to keep it out of landfill. (The "cycle" bit of Freecycle comes from "recycle").
Some groups also allow people to post "WANTED" ads, but most either don't allow these, or restrict them heavily, because the vast majority of people looking to give stuff away get fed up if they log in each morning to see loads of stuff being asked for, but nothing offered.
It's up to the individual OFFERING stuff to choose who they'll give it to. Some people give it to the first person who asks. Others will give priority to people who are offering loads of stuff back to the community.
I've given away a lot of books and a few mobile phone handsets... I've got back a bike for my wife, a spin dryer, and a telly!
