Marketing consists of a lot of different things!
Most people think it is the same thing as advertising. But it's not. Advertising is only ONE of the many components, along with promotions, publicity, customer service, etc. ANYTHING THAT WILL ENTICE (or discourage) someone to buy/pay for your product/service.
The 4 P's of Marketing are:
Price
Product
Place
Promotion
What you sell, how innovative it is; what it's priced at, is the price the same value the consumer gives it; where you sell it and advertise it; and how you promote it. |

Marketing is creating conditions by which others decide on their own that they want what you've got.

1. Product - a physical product &/or service you perform
2. Price - has to be within reason; overpricing can put you out of business BUT underpricing can make consumers suspicious that what you're offering is shoddy, third rate materials/workmanship.
3. Placement - where in the grand scheme of things does this fall into? Is this a fully unique item/service that no one else has? Or is it something everyone can get but yours is a suped up version? Again ask yourself, "Where does mine fall in at?"
4. Distribution - how do you distribute this to the end user? Direct? Or by retail? If by retail, how is it distributed? Middlemen involved?
You have to be able to answer these questions and think about what they are and how they relate to what it is you're offering.
Oh and by the way, "selling" is NOT marketing contrary to popular belief rather it is a sub-classification of Marketing. |
