Your hosting company does not affect your ranking. A good host that I know is dreamhost, really good service, features, and uptime guarantee. |

Hosting company doesn't make any difference for search, but your domain name can effect your traffic. As far as a hosting company is concern I think godaddy is best.

Hi Ari,
Web hosting companies do not determine you search engine ranking. Your ranking depends on link banks ( sites that link directly to your site ), you relevancy in you domain name compared to your website content, your meta tags, website layout and keywords, content, and how often you update your site.
To optimize your site to target LA, use keywords that describe LA. You description should be something like: " Myswebsite.com - Offering this service in the Los Ageles and surrounding area" etc. Make sure you have descriptive keywords, terms that LA will be searching for to find your site.
Next, I would recommed using yahoo searchmarketing or google adwords, or even facebook advertising. You can specify how many cents you will pay per click and can directly taget agegroups and location. You can target residents specifically in the LA area.
Finally, some webhosts offer a credit towards adwords or yahoo searchmarketing. Powweb offers a $75 credit towards yahoo and google. I would recommend them, as I have used them before and they provide excellent service. They also have a promotion on for $3.88 per month. Good luck with your website. There are lots of excellent resources out there on the web that can help you! |

I just read an article about this on Site Pro News. You should look for these things when choosing a hosting company, according to their article:
1. Make sure they are primarily a hosting company because they won't deliver top quality if they diversify too much
2. Look for one that has a great record for online security
3. Excellent customer service

5. Don't rely on "uptime" numbers alone...they're hard to verify
6.An easy to use shopping cart
7. Protection against spam, viruses, etc
8.Solid add on services like image upload galleries, cpanels, etc
9.Flexible features like support for different languages and scripts
10. Look for good references and testimonials. Check the Better Business Bureau for any neg or pos reports. If they have a trial period, use it.
