mattbob345 | What is a good website (other than Ebay) for buying and selling items? |
I'm looking for a website, very similar to Ebay, that generates a lot of traffic, and just wanted to know if there are any out there that anyone knows of other than Ebay.
Thanks! |

It really depends on what you're selling.
Amazon is okay for books (though their commission is quite steep).
Craigslist/kijiji is good for items that may be too large to ship. So, if you're looking to sell any kind of furniture, these places are great.
As far as the less valuable trinket-esque items, eBay is probably the best site out there as far as exposure goes... but that seems to be changing. It's only a matter of time before another auction site becomes as popular as ebay. I think iOffer is alright, but certainly not as popular as ebay. |

There isn't another auction site that has anywhere near the traffic that ebay has. Ask 100 people to name a web auction site and what do you think they will say, Sell-It-Here or eBay?
Yes, many sellers continually complaining about the high cost of ebay and PayPal fees. However, before you jump ship, consider your potential market. How many members does the new auction site have compared to tens of millions of members at ebay? You may be saving money on fees or paying no fees at all but any new auction site will have a small fraction of the members that ebay has. These smaller auction sites âdangle their wormsâ with low and no fees but they certainly wonât tell new sellers their items will sell for less than at their sites than they will sell for at ebay. You may sell an item for $10 at another auction site with far, fewer members that would likely sell for substantially more at ebay with its much, much greater membership. This is a classic example of âstepping over a dollar to pick up a penny.â
These smaller auction sites are good for buyers for the same reason that they are bad for sellers:
fewer bidders = less competition = lower closing prices.
There isnât another auction site on the web that can hold a candle to ebay and the tens of millions of members it has. Many have tried and many have failed and yet, many are still trying. Ebay has a virtual lock on this business. This is where you want to sell as ebay has the largest potential market.
The ebay formula:
LARGEST auction site by far = MAXIMUM competition = HIGHER closing prices
A basic business tenet is âThe greater the potential market, the greater the potential for maximum profits.â This is ebay (for the moment). My advice: Donât be penny wise and pound-foolish. But the final choice is yours. Good luck! |

But if you are selling other stuff, I agree with the other suggestions already made. |
