What is a website that you can make a free businesss website?

I would like to make a FREE website for a business I have started. Do you know a website that I can make a website in an easy fast and free way?

You do not want a free business web site believe me. Free web sites have their own advertisements and their own domain. Appear professional and invest in your own URL and host it on a paid site (you can get cheap hosting at lots of places, try godaddy.com).

There are two separate problems here: hosting and design.

Hosting:

2. You can bum hosting of any friend willing to give you space on their server.
3. Some place like Dreamhost where an entire year is like $97.

Pay attention to the hidden clauses about bandwidth usage and storage.

Design:
1. Static Site
If you are making a static site where nothing changes, all you need is Notepad (or Notepad2 from Flo's Freeware because it has syntax highlighting for html, php and CSS, all things you should eventually look up and learn a little about) and a browser. The Mozilla suite has a free html editor.

Mind you, this approach is great if you just want to put up a few basic pages and change them only when you have an event or new flyer.

If you have a reasonably unlimited stock, you can use buy it now buttons from Google, paypal or similar for your commerce.

2. Dynamic.
This is where the real fun begins. Be sure to review something about connecting to a mySQL database before you attempt this (it's not that bad).

Forums, registration, shopping carts, the full luscious glory of e-commerce, the power of the Web at your command.

osCommerce is either provided or easy to install with most php/mySQL hosts.

3. tips
Learn how to use CSS. If you have a myspace and use a custom layout, you already are using CSS (Cascading StyleSheets).

Use Notepad instead of Frontpage or Dreamweaver. Avoid Adobe Golive. Why? Those programs insert extraneous garbage. I can in six lines or so make a mouse-over effect for links using

Adobe, Frontpage, Dreamweaver, etc. use this convoluted pile of javascript or flash to make the same effect.

Most sites can be made to fit into a table with two columns and the first row. The following should get you started. Just add colors, fonts, and content.
