To get people to bring up your site as regular search results, there are a bunch of different things to do. Some basics are, to have other legitimate websites link to your website, ensure you mention keywords in the HTML-head title, "H1" title, and file or directory name. If you're not a tech nerd like me, partner up with one... at least someone who can guide you along a bit. I found a "golden" webpage the other day that is a super summary of all the things that go into giving your website better search engine rankings. This page has results from interviews with the experts, as opposed to many of the rumors you might see on various blogs, forums, etc..:

The basic formula is to create quality content that contains the keywords people will be searching with when your site should be found. If you're selling sewing supplies then your site should have separate pages with an emphasis on each type of sewing product you sell and these pages need to use the specific keywords early and frequently. As the search engine bots discover your site, they will discover these pages and recognize by your keyword use when to include them in search results.
It's important too to participate in online conversations by contributing your expert opinion and advice. Always include links back to the appropriate pages on your site when doing this.
In addition to these fundamentals, you can really goose your visibility by launching online press releases. There are free services that will host your release, but for real distribution to several online locations and to the media (doesn't hurt when the media takes an interest!) I recommend the company I work for, PRWeb (http://www.prweb.com). It's not free but it's not too expensive either (starts at $80 per release). There's more information at the link below. |

adwords from Google is the best. no charge unless people
click on your ads. You set the cost per click and your monthly
budget. Some webhosts will give you Adword vouchers when you take their hosting packages. 1&1 for example.

There are too many options to list here, but the first one that you should consider is creating a video on the subject you are involved with, and post it to Youtube, Google Video, Metacafe, Aol video, Yahoo video, etc. You can do a video on many different subjects I am sure. And it doesn't have to be a Spielberg production. You can use Camtasia, or a web-cam as a stand alone tool. You can can mix in PowerPoint...you can even do a PowerPoint only presentation and then have it created into video format.
I use Visual Communicator which is now owned by Adobe, Camtasia, and the coolest new tool is Imagematics. You can create a video using pictures only. I love it.
But the bottom line here is that you will get people to view your video, and you'll get a bit of traffic as a result (be sure to put your website in your profile area of each video site). Also, post a starter image with an intro to your product/website at the beginning and end of your video as well.
In addition, you can have Youtube host your video, and then you can embed the video on your site, therefore adding more content and 'stickiness' to your site.
The best thing about video is that you can then turn it around into an article and post it to article directories for free. This way you will get some traffic, and the search engines will spider your site.
There are so many options, but I believe video is a 'must'. |

I have to agree whole hartedly with the answer you got from "jbeaul " who says:-The basic formula is to create quality content that contains the keywords people will be searching with when your site should be found. If you're selling sewing supplies then your site should have separate pages with an emphasis on each type of sewing product you sell and these pages need to use the specific keywords early and frequently. As the search engine bots discover your site, they will discover these pages and recognize by your keyword use when to include them in search results.
I have been working in a similar vein for many years and very recently decided to create and build my own advertising management system and added a Linkup Gold search engine with automatic links into Google, Alvista, Yahoo and many other search engines which can make your results phenomenal when using the keyword features and writing articles at the same time.
If you want to try it out I am currently giving away $25.00 to each new advertiser because it is so very new:-http://www.njpbusiness.com/adman , and if you are interested in placing some of my Google style advertsing on your website you can get a publisher account in the same place as well.
There are many advantages to being a publisher as well as an advertiser by using reciprocating links and our RSS systems along with writing good and popular articles on our main web at http://www.njpbusiness.com .
Because our systems are not as popular as Google the cost is far less but your advertising will endup on google and other major search engines anyway.
You are doing the right thing in placing your question to groups and getting a good mixture of answers to give yourself an overall impression of how many other work their marketing strategies and I hope you find this one helpful.

A great place is Google Ad words, Google Video, You tube. There is a tutorial I think you should see. It is about Google Video. It is very new and very reliable to bring your name up on a search. You can get the most out of Google Video by watching this tutorial. I would highly recommend it. It has helped me tremendously. I believe you can purchase the tutorial for $9.95 at http://www.alienax.ws .It was the best $10 I've ever spent in my life. Most places charge like $47 per tutorial. This is the cheapest I've found it. It will show you everything you need to know to generate mass amounts of free traffic with a professional looking video. Here is another great system to use if looking for another easy income source on the web that will help with your marketing experience. http://www.axellewis.com |

The following article will prove helpful to you in streamlining your SEO metatags in order to attract more Net traffic by higher search engine placement.
The most effective way to advertise on the Internet is
to first set up a website and publish its domain name
on major search directories such as Google.com,
Yahoo.com [at http://www.google.com/addurl/?...... and
MSN.com since 85% of Internet shoppers rely on these
search directories to provide them with goods and
services. In a sense, these search directories are a
very large Internet Yellow Pages.
Nevertheless, should your website or opening webpage
fail to contain "generic" keywords, then anyone using
such "generic" queries will not be able to discover
your website. Your domain name [URL] of your website,
in a sense, will be invisible, undiscoverable.
You may want to consider some simple algorithms which,
when observed and committed in designing of a website
with placement of various critical metatags that can
surely achieve a high search engine presence and
increase Internet traffic to your website. These
metatag strategies work well with published webpages
at Google and Yahoo.
Design: Should you create an extensive Flash-based
website, make sure to fill-in the property entries
such as the Title, Description and Keywords. Failing
to do so, leaves no hard HTML or ALT resource that can
be readily indexed by search robots. Also consider the
Internet audience and their incoming setup. For
example, if they are on analog/dialup, Flash webpages
take too long to load up and therefore analog users
will likely lose interest and discontinue entering the
Flash site. On the other hand, anyone on hi-speed DSL
lines, will welcome Flash pages which load quickly. So
before designing a pure Flash websitge, ask the simple
question, "Who's my end user - is he on dialup or
DSL?" And if you had to choose between these two users
for maximum marketability, then select analog users
since 80% of most resident users are still analog
Internet subscribers and pure HTML designed webpages
is best for them.
A non-Flash-based website which relies on hard text,
is far easier to be indexed by search robots. Limit
the use of stylized text saved as .gifs since as a
graphic, they are not indexable by search robots.
Avoid use of frames since any number of search robots
are unable to properly classify textual material.
Placement of Metatags:
A ranking or search order does take place with Google
and Yahoo and it begins with the "Title" metag which
should consist of no more than 60 characters separated
by commas. The "Title" should describe in generic terms, the goods and services, followed by a location from which the resource is located, i.e., city, state. The placement of a domain name which is not generic within the "Title" is not appropriate, unless your
domain name is a major recognizable brand name.
The second metatag is the "Description" which is
usually up to 41 words to form a complete paragraph which
best describes one's goods and services. It is not merely a list.
And the very last category - "Keywords" are also
somewhat limited to 15 words which can be plural
and compound in nature. Again, avoid multiple entries
which could be mistaken as "spamdexed entries" which
is defined as the loading, and submission of
repetitive words into a particular metatag category.
"Spamdexing" when discovered on a webpage and reported
to Google's spamreport.com can result in the
elimination of your website from their search
directory.
Here's an example of a very highly-placed website on
Google.com: Begin with the very "generic" search query
"sandwiches downtown los angeles," taking note to not
abbreviate Los Angeles to "LA" and of course, leave
out the parentheses ("). It will bring up some 2.4
million+ search results. Check out where "Nazos.net"
is ranked. It's on the SECOND FRONT [ranked 15]!
Again, Nazos.net's high web presence was achieved by
proper web design and placement of relevant metatags
according to Google's publication guidelines.
Good luck! |
