| What is the best approach to getting potential prospects interested in your products/services? |
I have always worked in the healthcare industry (not much selling there..LOL), and I am in my first sales career. I am needing to meet as many people as possible, to attempt to obtain my client portfolio. The services I provide are what everyone needs, but it is a sensitive topic that everyone likes to keep their "head in the sand" over. How do I approach potential clients in a way that keeps their "sales shield" down?
*Experienced Sales Professional's responses only, please. Thanks! Additional Details What we do is we help our clients accumulate assets in a tax efficient manner, but we always pay attention to risk management from a financial perspective.
Our products/services range anywhere from 401k rollovers to LTC products, including life insurance. Our problem is everyone seems to have that "Oh, you're an insurance salesman, no thank you". If people would give us the opportunity to show them what all we can really do for them, they would never turn down an appointment unless they were morons. Our problem is finding the people that give us the first chance to inform them of how we can help. They see it as sales, we see it as service. By the way, thanks for those of you have answered my question so far; I appreciate the advice. |

One way to get the Sale Shield down is to work with potential customers as if you're a consultant to their business. Help them improve their success rather than immediately start pitching a product or service. Be their agent for good, useful information and good choices that are right for their goals.
Keep in mind that this is a risk as well, since they might just use you as an information source, but not buy your wares. It's a small price to pay, because if they trust you as being an expert, the likelihood of them straying is lower.
I've seen the best sales people walk away from a deal, while also steering their prospect to the right direction and never hear from them again. But the headaches of trying to sell them something they don't need or completely changing your offering to exactly what they want is a bad precedent. |

get leads from other finacial brokers etc. You may want to see if they will provide you a list and in return they get paid in either commission or a straight rate if u make the sale. I hope you are getting paid a salary and gas milage. |

You can always find a company that professionally sets appointments. My marketing company does campaigns for the Health Insurance industry all the time and it never seems to be an issue setting appointments for your type of services. If you want, email me at a.taylor@onsitesat.com and I would be happy to share some scripts that we use. |

Promote your product where people go to seek help on this. make a simple website showing the benefits of using your product, may be offer some free samples. Join forums on the topic and make blogs about how you can help. You must know that you make money by solving other peoples problems. This problem that many people don't like to talk about may do well online because people can remain annonymos. They may order your product online.
Also you can set up a form on the website for people to read more information about your product and the best way to use it. This information will come to them through their inbox. You need to pre-write several emails on how you can help them by buying this product Offer them free info and advice along the way, along with a couple of other products that may compliment the original product that your are selling. Is there a book on " living with XX desise"? Add it as a complimentry gift as an insentive for purchaces.

One way of presenting your product is to approach people with information about a related problem - one that is not as sensitive. For instance, you could offer a free tip sheet or a checklist to deal with this other problem.
Once you have a chance to talk to clients about the "other problem," just touch on the real topic. As you get to know them better, it may be time to discuss it frankly and provide your solution.
Hope this helps.
