Having a local business, your best choices would be to distribute lots of flyers in your area, post ads everywhere you can, and always trust the power of "word of mouth" - it's the king of advertising.
However, you could take into consideration optimizing your search engine rankings for specific keywords. I took the liberty of analyzing one keyword for you: "oregon mechanic shop". It has a difficulty of 39%, which is really good, meaning that the number of searches versus competition ratio is excellent. This in turn means that you can get it 1st place in Google very easily. So think about it will you? ;)
If you want to learn how to optimize your site here's a good e-book to get you started: http://www.googlesnatch.com
Good luck with your business |

Everything you are doing is great but dont forget word of mouth and satisfied customers are the best!
You can also add your business to "yahoo local", "citysearch", "craigslist", ect.
Oh yeah and also freebees like pens, frisbees, stress balls with your company logo
Thanks,

I think your doing pretty good so far. Though a web site can go a long way. If your fixing cars or something of that nature in my opinion it would be kinda pointless to reach far across the web. I think you can put your business in google earth if you know what that is which im sure you do. If not check out www.maps.google.com
Try to get a large ad in the news paper instead of a small print since it will more then likely stick out more to the people reading it. Just anything you can put in locally it will help. If you haven't added your website to google you can do this by simply going to this link: http://www.google.com/addurl/ it may help generate traffic to your website for free and if you have the money you can pay to have google to advertise your shop. |

As far as internet marketing, try city search.Other land advertisements would be putting magnets at car washes, gas pumps and public bathrooms with permission of course.Convenience store ad does well also, just ask to put up a small print ad on the window most people of arabic/foreign descent allow you to. |

Word of mouth is always the best advertisement. If you do good work and are reasonable with pricing you wont need the paper unless your having a sale. Good and timely service is way better than any newspaper add will do, Also I have a friend in metro detroit with a shop and he has i guess you would call it and expo once a month in the summer time to showcase some of his work (mainly souping up cars) with free hotdogs and pop. Seems to work great for him, Hope this helps and good luck with the new business. |

Time to think outside the box. Everyone says to go with Radio, TV, Newspaper ads or Internet Advertising. Here's a new idea...
Contact owners of small used car lots. Offer to do a few jobs for them at a discounted rate in exchange for some referral business. It's a win for everyone. They get work done on some of the cars they plan on selling at a discounted rate and you get some good advertising that's only going to cost you the time of your mechanic. If it's either you or your husband, then there's no out of pocket expense except some business cards and perhaps some flyers to share with the Car Lot Owners. |

I would first go to family and friends then just have your friends hand out flyers to their freinds and family and so on....
it takes time you just have to be patient and then soon enough you should have lots of costomers...

A good way to make advertisements its that you have to embellish your advertisements. You have to add some graphical and designs to your advertisements give a quintessential way of expression with your capability. But the most important you have to persuade the customer you need to convince them to attract them to your shop. |

Put up signs right beside everyday useful objects and say things like:
This working door brought to you by mechanics
come visit __________(store)
and then put all required contact information.
If you can advertise on tv, then your customers will REALLY
start coming :P |

Even if it's not in your funds, donate to local organizations. Local car shows!!! Donate free oil changes or brake jobs for there raffles. Do a good job for your customers and provide quality service! Word will spread faster than flyers and the clientel will follow. Oh yeah... Myspace page and Facebook MIGHT help a little. |

go along your state highway's and look for blank billboards. it will say on the board " Advertise here" and then a phone number. those are very affective, i HAVE to look at them when i pass one, just because of their size. Also try those newspaper dispensing box thingy's. on the front should be a good advertising space. call the company of the dispensor for info! GOOD LUCK radio is a good way too. |

in many cities there are free newspapers for the
customer in which businesses advertise. advertising that
way would probably be cheaper than advertising in a large
paper, good luck.these newspapers are commonly free
in grocery stores etc... |
