1. Make sure your home page
has many keywords that relate
to your product, service, etc.
2. Submit your site to at least
the following free search engines.

http://www.claymont.com/home/
http://www.openup.com/
http://searchsight.com/

Look for the submit your URL or
suggest a site links. Don't think
about advertising on any of them.
I'm sure there are many more small
local search engines in your state and
city.
Also, use the nearest city's local news
websites to advertise your site. Most
if not all are free.
3. If you have a printer, create and print
business cards on an as needed basis.
Otherwise have 500 printed, it's not much.
Color helps but increases cost just a bit.
My suggestion is black and one more color.
4. Take your cards around to local businesses
and see if they'll put them on their counters.
Maybe you could do the same for them. If
you don't have a store front you can tell them
you'll advertise for them on your site if they'll
put your cards out. You may need to purchase
business card holders.

The two best ways to get traffic is through pay per click or natural search listing.
PPC costs real money. You can try Google Adwords, Yahoo Search Marketing or MSN. Google gets the most traffic and as you might expect, usually costs the most.
Natural takes time and patience, but it is free traffic. The best thing you can do to get ranked in the search engines is to get inbound links to your site from other sites. You need to make sure these are quality sites that are related to your website. (if yours is about cars get links from other car related sites)
Start by getting listed in directories or writing articles about your business and posting them online. You could write a press release and pay $40 to have PRWeb distribute it online. And there are a bunch more if you start reading blogs about search engine marketing. |
