The number one thing most sales people hate are cold calls. Hopefully the following ideas will help you.
1. Just dial the phone and strike up a conversation. Don't focus on your pitch and trying to close every person you speak to. Try to find out their needs or pain and offer solutions that meet their needs/pain. People like solutions to problems not being sold.
2. Apply the LAW of Asking. You never know what anyone will say unless you ask. So stop procrastinating and start asking, good things will happen.
3. No amount of training, scripts or support will prepare you for learning to cold call. You simply have to jump in with both feet and get going, so do it!
4. Begin with the end in mind. Think about what you want: more money, a new home, a new car, $10,000 in the bank. Once you know what you want you begin working to get it. Successful people are results oriented. It doesn't matter that you may have to make thousands of cold calls to obtain your goal. You will simply do it to reach your goal. So think about what you want and then go get it.
5. Stand up while on the phone and smile! Standing will increase your confidence and smiling will improve your attitude and tone on the phone. Enjoy what you do and enjoy the fact you are helping through your companies solution.
6. Lastly here's the percentage break down between what matters to people in the sales process: 20% is the product, service and company you represent but 80% is you the sale person. It's not the product or service that matters toy our clients it's you. Your customer's buy you not your company. So remember to build repoire and build relationships don't simply sell your product.

Have you ever heard of Toastmasters International? It is a non profit Speaking and Leadership organization. They have been around for 80 years, and have clubs located all over the world. I joined 20 years ago. The education and support not only gave me tremendous self confidence, I learned management and leadership skills, and do public speaking for many organizations. Go to www.toastmasters.org. Very little money, less than $100.00 per year, and the best education, and support you will find. Hope you check it out. |

Write down word for word of what you want to say, then call someone. Test it on a friend first to see if it is a good sales pitch. Best way to get over it, is to do it! |

Just start doing it. I don't like to use the phone much myself, but once I get started, it gets easier and easier. It's getting started that's the hard part. Sit down, take a deep breath, and pick up the phone. |

they can't hurt hurt - they can just say no. some people say "no" is nastier ways than others.
Also, practice.
You could try desensitization therapy.

a therapist ( who knows about fears and phobias) helps you break down ALL the parts of what is scary about making a cold call.
Assuming it was a phone call,
that list might be something like:
review script
look up phone number
dial phone
say hello
say who you are and why you are calling
etc
the therapist has you practice the first/easiest step till it doesn't scare you anymore.
then you move to the next step --same pattern. Practice it till it doesn't scare you anymore.
You don't move to a scarier step, till you have mastered the previous step.
The therapist also might try to help you with meditation, controlled breathing, affirmations, even meds, etc. |

The more calls you make the less stressful it will be in the future. Try and stay positive!!! People will pick up negative tones and then your in big trouble and won't sell anything. You'll learn what pitch gives the best result, now you just have to find that pitch. Don't worry, be happy!! |

Practice in front of a mirror and on friends and family...Just put out of your mind who you are talking to and that way you get your words and tone down first. Also just deep breath and relax. |
