Have a few of your more influential friends go into the store and ask for your line of clothes. Since they don't carry it they won't find it? Have them mention how disappointed they are at not finding your line and have them tell the store clerk that they will go to another store who name they conveniently forgot where someone mentioned that the line was being carried.
After a couple of incidents like this the word will get to the buyer and you might get an urgent call. |

Start with your friends and connections. Let them try out your stuff. If they like it, expand to strangers. The more people wear it, the more other people will become curious about it. They just might start asking stores for the same type of clothes. Word of mouth is more powerful than you think. Do you know anyone famous in your area? If she wears it, that'll also be a big help. |

Trade shows!!! Be seen at Magic, Fame and any show you can exhibit at in the merchandise marts in Los Angeles, Dallas, Atlanta, Chicago and New York.
If you don't yet have the budget to do this, start taking your clothing to local mom and pop shops first. They don't have such tough gatekeepers to their buyers and you can begin building a little bit of a clientele and put together money so that you can exhibit.
Prior to exhibiting, call the larger retailers and start asking for their buyer's information. They will give you that information pretty easily, but you are going to need to have a catalog before they will give you an appointment in most cases. Once you do, each store will tell you their process for purchasing. A great thing to do is to be able to invite them to an appointment at your booth at an upcoming show.
The smaller shows at the mart cost less to exhibit at, but I wouldn't miss FAME in New York (I think in May), and Magic in Las Vegas in February and August! Those are two of the biggest shows and while they cost a little bit more to exhibit at, your audience will be exponentially larger!
