1. Because the very definition of advertising is, "the use of a media (like TV, newspaper, radio) to connect the buyer with the seller," the best advertising would be the one that worked best at the time it was placed or seen.
2. In other words, the one that reached the most people and conveyed the message that the company offering the product or service, meant to get across.
3. Therefore "good" advertising is any promotion that ultimately results in the product or service being purchased. It's not good enough just to get the message out if no sale is ever made. |

What is the purpose of advertising. It is but a form of communication by "word, picture", repetition and frequency to persuade people consiously or sub-consiously to think in a certain way or to act in a certain way, eg to purchase the new BMW becasue it is a status symbol, because its value for money.....etc....or To Save the Whale or Stop Smoking.
Therefore a good advertising would be
1. clear, eg, Stop Smoking
2. memorable, - eg.coca cola ad
3. impactful - Benetton
4. Meaningful
and or none of the above as long as the Objectives of the Advertisment message is obtained. Sometimes the medium is more powerful than the message. eg, Ghandi's Hunger strike, Tianamen ...... |

not in advertising or anywhere near it but as a viewer/listener i think the important ingredients would be;
1) Its catchy enough to stay locked in your head. Eg. the phrase "75-52-525 pizza hut special delivery" - i can remember despite it being that old
2) relevance - has to be very relevant to the product...not just very catchy |

"Good" advertising is advertising that works and, to the dismay of all those charlatans that would have the advertiser believe otherwise, no test is available to insure that success. As Mr. Hershey (chocolate) himself once said, "Half my ad spending is wasted. I just don't know which half." |
