Nofollow is a tag used in a link
the code for a link is this:
<a href="http://www.link.com" rel="nofollow">Links</a>
If you insert nofollow you tell Google you don't vouch for the link and no value is passed to the web site.
Some have used nofollow on internal links, but google has come out this past week and said it's best not to use nofollow for internal links.
Dofollow just means a regular link. |

Nofollow was introduced by Google (but also taken into consideration by most Search Engines now to a greater or lesser extent).
It was introduced to avoid the SERPS (ranking positions) being manipulated by advertiser links and in some cases avoid comment spam on comment boards. It is in Google guidelines that if you sell a link (advertisement) that you should add the 'nofollow' attribute to show Google that this is not an editorial link/authentic recommendation.
LINKS WITH THE NOFOLLOW ATTRIBUTE PASS NO SEO LINK VALUE WHATSOEVER - NOTHING. The only value is the direct visitor who visits the other site through the link. |
