..this will help in directing people to the same address, even if you move hosts.
Unfortunately, the answer to your question will likely change with time. For example, once upon a time, what used to work was to code in meta-tags into the HTML ... meta-tags were automagically indexed by most search engines. News to me is that this is not only no longer the case, but might be disadvantageous in some regards. It's still a good practice, for reasons other than traffic direction, but ..not apparently what you're looking for.
I'd suggest you read the Wikipedia article on it - they will probably be the most up to date on such things and will likely point you to a viable alternative.

It is not necessary to submit your website to search engines, they will automatically find it via their 'spiders' and 'robots' (programs for scanning the www). However, if you do submit to search engines, your site will not be indexed any quicker.
It is a good idea to submit your site to directories (which are different than search engines as they are human powered, not programs). A few such directories are: Yahoo.com and DMOZ.org (the two big ones -there are many smaller ones).
I strongly recommend you do not use services or automatic submitting programs to submit your website as these programs are against the Terms Of Service of many search engines.
The most important aspects to gaining trafic to your website is to have a lot of good content for your visitors, share your knowledge pertaining to your site's topic via forums and community groups, research your keyowrds and key phrases (words and phrases that you think people will use to find your site), incorporate theyse words and phrases in your content and <title> tag, and be patient. These techniques will bring traffic to your site naturally, via online 'word-of-mouth' sharing of your site (where other site owners think your site is of interest to their visitors, they let their visitors know of your site). |

Hi I have used most of the free traffic submitters alot of time you get penalized I find it better to bring them using other traffic generating ways. Like submitting articles and such I learn alot of these at sitestealingprofits.com/traffic they have over 48 videos and it is quite abit cheaper than the paid proffesionals but you have to work to make it happen it is easy.
