Depends on what you like doing. Technical writing. Journalism. Editing / proofreading books or magazines. Teaching English. There are lots of things out there. Ask about career counselling at the college / university where you graduated. They should have plenty of resources. And ask at the alumni association if they can put you in touch with other English majors - perhaps you could find out what they are doing - and some of them might be hiring!

Seek out via university librarians as a graduate thesis editor charging some $2.00 per page. The librarian can promote your English skills to new graduate students and you'll earn a steady income with plenty of off-line time for other activities.
Good luck!

I'm an English major and I've not found anything specifically related to my degree. I currently work at a hospital in the IS department. I went in as an admin and worked my way up to application analyst. I didn't take any computer courses; I just learned our applications really well. Before that I was in sales. I also did some copy editing for a collections agency. I've always made a decent to pretty darn good living. :) It just depends on what you want to do. A degree in English is a good base degree. I will tell you this, of all the English majors I've met, none of us were doing anything with literature and most of us were doing something vastly different from our degree.
