Offers, putting their best products at the front/in the window to lure people in, walking you through different departments so you might impulse buy, loyalty/discount cards. Just some ideas off the top of my head. |

the whole layout of a shop is scientifically planned.
Higher profit items are placed at eye level, aisle ends are used for special offers as they are the best space.
Even stores that do not have bakeries sometimes pipe the smell of fresh bread round.as it makes your mouth water.
the type of music will affect your buying
neccessities will be spaced out to maximise the exposure to offers. Have you ever been in a supermarket where bread milk and sugar were close together?
Special offers, bogofs, loyalty cards etc all contribute to the way you are influenced. |

Loss leaders...they advertise a product at cost price to get you in to the stores, and hopefully you will buy more products in that same store, they also use this tact, so even if they sell out of that cheap line...they have other lines of similar products, but not so cheap and because you've made a special trip, you'll more than likely buy that instead.....very effective, all the big department stores use it all the time! |
