I would pay for very exclusive business cards for 30-40 pences per cards or less than £40 for 100 cards.

I would pay about $15 for top business cards. That is a little high though you can get business cards anywhere now days. Alot of companys give you them for free in the begging. You would have to build a client base before you every really started to make money. There is already so many companies out there that make them that it could be hard to sell them.

Business cards are not the key thing in bettering business and sales. They should look professionally produced and be congruent with your company image but it's what you do and say when you're with people or in your marketing or in the service you offer that really makes the difference to your business.
As others have said, business cards end up in piles that do nothing to move your business forward.
We pay £49 plus VAT for 500 well produced cards from printing.com or £64 plus VAT for 1000.

Those business cards will go with the rest of the business cards. In a file, box, bottom of the glove box. I've seen a ton of business cards, some are cool, some are not. Reality, though, is that a business needs to be face to face as much as possible. If not possible a phone call etc.
Spend money on things people use everyday...pens coffee mugs, stickers etc. Something in their face or in their hands daily.
